AUTO-RX and Powersteering

I put this in the transmission section since powersteering fluid is basically hydraulic fluid which is used in transmissions, and some powersteering units take ATF.
Nowadays most powersteering systems are of the Rack & Pinion setup, much more responsive than what is on my El Camino. Many people do not worry about there PS unless there is a leak or other problem.
My El Camino is cheap too take care of, if the PS goes bad, spend $60.00 on a new pump or maybe spend $20.00 for a high pressure hose.
Rack & Pinion setups are different in that if a seal goes bad you may have to replace the whole steering rack, with parts and labor this can add up to about $1500.00 or more.
My recommendation is to change the fluid every 30,000 miles and one thousand miles before a fluid change, check out the Powersteering Application. I think it is something like 2 ounces of auto-rx. Basically a bottle of auto-rx will last you until 180,000 miles.
A bottle of auto-rx is much cheaper than replacing a powersteering rack. I did the powersteering application on my El Camino and my powersteering works effortlessly, I have 367,000 miles on the car, and its the original powersteering gear.
Auto-Rx will keep the seals in your Rack & Pinion steering very pliable, I do not believe in the powersteering cleaners from BG and other companies that you put in for 10 minutes and then flush, many of these cleaners have solvents that can do more harm than good.
When I did the powersteering application the fluid that came out after 1000 miles was very dark. I recently sucked out some powersteering fluid and it looked brand new.
