When I first got the Granada and started up it was smoking abit and had a peep throught the Oil Filler hole, although I could see the metal parts, but not like the ones in the photos, so I did some thinking, spoke to my friend who works in a vechicle engine centre, this is what I did :-

1) poured a can of 'BG' Quick Clean in the old oil and ran the engine on tick over for 15 minutes for the Hydraulic Valve Lifters noisey issuse, switched off, remove old oil filter & plug and let it drip dry overnight,
2) had another look in the oil filler hole, could see black dirt in places, plug & cheap oil filter fitted on, poured 4 Ltrs of 'Comma' Flush Out and ran the engine on tick over for 30 minutes, the Hydraulic Valve Lifters sounded a lot quieter, switched off, remove the used oil filter & plug and let it drip dry overnight,
3) looks alot better and can see the metal parts, but not good as the ones in the photos, first poured 4.5 Ltrs 'Carlube' 10W/30 Mineral engine oil & Ford's own oil filter with one bottle of Auto-RX, followed the "Heavy Oil Burning Application",
4) followed the "Heavy Sludge Application" with 'Carlube' 10W/30 Mineral engine oils & Ford's own oil filters,
5) poured 'XADO' VitaFlush and ran the engine for 15 minutes, switched off, took off the plug & oil filter and let it drip dry overnight, (FINISH)
6) (Personal Choice) poured 4.5 Ltrs of Valvoline Synpower Fully Synthetic 5W/30 and Ford's own oil fliter with 'XADO' Gel-Revitalizant (for engines) threatments
7) Six months or Six thousand miles which ever comes first change the engine oil & filter same type as above, then add-in a bottle of 'ZX1' Mirco Oil (Extralube).

The whole thing took about six months of driving, I have noticed the M.P.G. is on the up to the factory specification and at times even better on using supermarket Super Unleaded fuel, I genuine feels that Auto-RX did that, also had to change the Thermostat, Anti-Freeze & Coolant Cap to ensure getting the engine running in correct temperature.
I have done this in past on different Granadas, but still have bit of dirt in it and Auto-RX is the only product that does all the cleaning and keep the engine staying clean, in the photos that was six thousands miles later on Synthetic oil.
By-the-way when I took the cover off I didn't use anything to clean up before I took the photos - honesty.
HTH.

Engine is now the cleanest thing in that Granada, shinier than new. Had to sign up to this forum just to see these pics. Nice job!

I think every guy needs a hobby, and if Granada's are yours, at least it's a means of transportation. Better than a lot of other counter-productive things you could be doing.

Thanks for sharing your experience. For a motor, she looks pretty good! biggrin

Just want to make sure I understand. You did do 2 quick flushes too?

...before I'm going to reply your question, please don't use any engine flushing products other than Auto-RX if your vehicle's engine is covers with sludges, beacuse it can make it worst!

"quick flushes" isn't the words I would use to gain a cleaner engine like the ones in the photos, it's was because of the noisy tappets, I mean really bad sound that it were going to break, hence that is why I seek advice from my good friend.

Before I've heard of Auto-RX I used the 4Ltr bottle of engine flush (0W/20) & a cheap oil filter and run the engine on tick over or try get it to run at 1,000 rev for half an hour, after that let it drip dry overnight with the sump plug & oil filter off, sometime I would do this method again on the next day to ensure the insides is clean & clear of dirt, but it doesn't totally free up the sticky pistons rings or improves the M.P.G. to the factory specfication or near enough only Auto-RX can, I promise you this!

I may have wasted my time doing the engine flushes instead of letting Auto-RX do its job fully, I'm firmly believed that Auto-RX is the best product, because now I've found in my other Granada the 1994 2.9i V6 12 valves have became a better car than on the day I brought it as there is Auto-RX in the Engine, Auto-Box after 'T-Tech' & Power Steering, it's a mind blowing experience! WOW!
The more I drive, the more performance I get out of it, just be patience and the right time will come, you will get your vehicle 'a cleaner engine!' wink.gif
HTH.

So you are stating NOT to use the below flush products as you did?

1) poured a can of 'BG' Quick Clean
2) poured 4 Ltrs of 'Comma' Flush
5) poured 'XADO' VitaFlush

Never heard of these, what's your take on them?
Are you recommending avoiding these also?

6) 'XADO' Gel-Revitalizant (for engines) threatments
7) 'ZX1' Mirco Oil (Extralube)

Thanks

Firecaptain

No I didn't say that and I've been using those products a long time before I discovered 'Auto-RX' so I guess the habit dies hard! smile

I'm still using Auto-RX in Engine, Auto-Box & Power Steering, although I haven't tried in the Axle (or the L.S.D. of the Cosworth yet.)

What I am really saying is don't use the flush products in a heavy sludged engine which will caused an blockage insides, only 'Auto-Rx® liquefies the sludge, carbon and other debris in your engine as you drive while preventing clogs in your engine oils flow.'

There is no chemistry that repairs worn metal ( even if you could, how would you keep OEM tolerances ?) This is on ARX Tech Board. So lets talk facts: Auto-Rx can "ALTER" the effects of wear on engine parts. No other chemistry can do so.(Clean Metal worn or not gets total lubrication from any oil, and it is the oil on the metal that alters previous wear patterns) Plus Auto-Rx is safe for you and the enviornment, thats why I invented and guarantee it.

We have withstood many products that promised all and did nothing , this board will not act as a billboard for more of the same.
