Too much Auto RX?

I stumbled across a thread on Bobistheoilguy where a guy was worried because he put the full 12oz botttle in a vehicle that only takes 5 quarts of oil. He never posted any results of the application. What would have occured by adding 2 extra ounces? Is there an amount of "overage" that would cause a problem, and what would the result be?

Nothing as all he realy did was add 2 ounces to his filter and 10 ounces to his engine. Overage with Auto-Rx is really a non event as Auto-Rx is not a solvent or petroueum based chemstry. IMO Auto-Rx will be on metal in a few hundred miles. Remember Auto-Rx uses oil as a carrier. Auto-Rx can't change your oil.s chemistry.

No big deal. In a cleaning cycle I always run a full bottle of ARX, in my 4.8 liter, GM V-8. Even though it is not the perfect quantity based on the applications. I have done the same in the wife's ride a 3800 series V-6. The application instructions are in place to protect the consumer with a precise application ratio. A slight over application of ARX into the host oil is no big deal.

I think there is the mindset that if a little is good a lot will be better. I've not read anywhere that over medicating with ARX produces better or faster results. A couple of ounces is not a concern. Doubling the recommended amount is probably just a waste of money.

Better I think to follow the application instructions as closely as you can and save any extra that results for another time.

Exceeding 2 1/2 ounces per quart of oil is not recommeded. Beyond 2 1/2 ounces per quart you start to mess with diluting the additive package of the host oil.

You're just wasting that extra 2 oz.

This stuff isn't cheap enough to do that. Save it for a maintenance dose down the road. It won't go bad.

I'm that guy....currently spinning the filter off the Civic at 1800 miles and running it another 1500.  then start the rinse cycle....using ST 5W-20 dino for both cycles....and in my 2001 F150 that I just started the cleaning cycle in.

(Also using ST dino on my second ARX cycle for my 1992 Galant, with approc 145k on the clock....nothing like getting 31-33 MPG CONSISTENTLY on a 16 year old car!  And when the little woman hit 39 in her 2001 Civic, with 120k, she was so happy, she had no problem with me having the extra ARX sitting in the garage!)

And BTW, it wasn't the "more  is better" approach...it was the, "my mind was on much more important things in life" issue.
