Extension of the Clean & Rinse Phases

There is a current thread on BITOG under "Olil Additives" suggesting that the 1500 mile clean phase and 2000 mile rinse phase are inadequate.  The thread suggests extending each phase to 3000 miles.

Since I am approximately 200 miles into a clean phase on my car, I am curious to hear what others have to think on this topic.

I certainly wouldn't take that advise from someone who's never tried the product before. Each engine will have a different amount of internal contaminents that have built up over time. Some of those contaminents are going to be easier to clean out that others. The instructions have been modified over time so that the average user will get the best results.

If you do not think that your application fits the norm then by all means ask Frank about your specific application.

I do not feel that my need falls outside of the norm. I agree.  I will stick to the application instructions that have been refined over the life of the product.

I followed the 1500 mile recommendation, and have just started the rinse phase.

If you'll notice the post by Rick20, I think he had a good idea and made a good point.  Why not just run a third treatment if that's a concern.  That way you don't have any potential wear contaminants unleashed by the cleaning that are in the oil.
