Hey Frank and everyone else just wanted to let you all know I pulled my valve cover last night after a little experiment. I dumped a whole bottle of the good stuff in with my last fill of SL M1 15W50 (4.1 qt sump) and have run it about 4,000 miles so far. While scaly, crusty pieces of carbon continue to recede, I noticed more of a stained appearance in certain places of clean metal. I suspect this is because of the arx coating the metal surfaces. I'm sure that it will come off once the high amount of arx is out of the oil and I will probably run either a dino HDEO or Rotella Synth 5W40 group III for the next oil change minus any maint dose to make sure.
This was merely an experiment born out of my curiosity and I can say that all it did at worst was validate the instructions you have repeated thousands of times! The gunk in my engine continued to receed at the same pace as it has with my last, normal apps of arx. No more, no less. All the extra dose did was stain a little around the timing chain side of my head. So all my fellow experimenters, just trust the guy who sells the stuff. I know everyones' at least pondered running the whole bottle for a full OCI.
By the way, wonderful follow-up about the safety of arx that Frank's been discussing in other threads. I used some chemtool spray carb cleaner on my lawnmower this weekend and still have a burn where it got under my wedding ring! I know this will be a fun one, so discuss.
