As many are aware, Honda has had higher than normal failing rates with their 4-speed AT in their 6th generation Accords (98-02). I have an '02. Would ARX be beneficial in extending the life of the trans? If so, how? Any particular fluids to not use or to use with ARX?
I have drained & refilled 3 qts every 15k miles. The 1st 3 were Z1 & the last one was AMSOIL. Remember their isn't a pan or a filter on this tranny.
Is there really any harm in leaving the ARX in the transmission & simply doing drain & refills every 15k miles if the slushbox is in good shape?
I left it in my tranny because I was just to lazy to change it, had no problems. You can read my experience on the link below if you like, it's my one year post tranny application thread. Also, over on BITOG the biggest claims of Autorx has been on how it fixes ailing transmissions. The number one reason for failing transmisions are the soft parts, and ARX cleans them and un sticks them. If it's a metal issue from poor design, than I don't think you'll get much help from Autorx other than the metal will be clean and it will get better lubrication. However, if the problems with the Honda's are the soft part like internal clutches etc, I think Autorx will have the same outstanding results that everyone with a sticky transmission that uses Autorx has. The stuff works best on transmissions and Frank should really gear a large part of his marketing targeting transmissions specifically. Autorx is just a huge benefit to the tranny! If you read this post on BITOG you will see how many people commented on how well it worked in the transmission.
I would give it a try. The main ingredient in ARX is a metal cutting oil so there is some EP properties there. I have been running ARX in the trans for 5k now with no problems. Get a filter and cooler on that thing ASAP.
