It is for a '95 K1500 Z-71 w/ 350TBI and 4l60e trans.
Background....
I bought it from the original owner at around 165k miles. It is very likely it had the original trans fluid and filter.
The first thing I did was drop and clean the pan, install a drain plug and install a new filter. Since then I have drained/refilled 4 times with Super Tech DexIII and have used 15oz of LubeGard Red.
I would like to use Auto-Rx to clean the trans.
Question: Since the trans was run with the original fluid for so long, should I perform one or two treatments?
Question: After the "cleaning" phase, do I HAVE to flush it, or may I perform multiple drain/refills.
Question: Would it be safe to run a synthetic ATF after the treatments. My worry is using a synthetic on such a high milage transmission.
If the trans fluid looked bad I would go ahead and get a flush done, or if you are mechanically inclined you can take one of the oil cooler lines that goes to your radiator and unattach it and get out most of the fluid. Go to Filtermag.com and get a trans magnet that attaches to the bottom of your pan, they work great and trap a lot of junk. I would go with Amsoil Synthetic Atf or Redline D4, both meet Dexron III specs, the reason I would go with synthetic ATF is that the trans will run cooler and the synthetic trans fluid can handle temperatures of 100 degrees higher than regular trans fluid. Another nice item is a product called Magnefine, check out there website, it is a filter that fits in your trans cooler line, abrasive materials and heat are what kills transmissions, I have 350,000 miles on a Turbo 350 and with using synthetic transmission fluid the temperature is about 150 to 160 at the pan meaning inside the trans it is about 180 or 190 degrees, when I change the fluid it is bright red and there is hardly any metal junk in the filter or pan, but when I used regular trans fluid there was some junk, no problem with running synthetic trans fluid, get the flush done do 1 treatment of Auto-Rx, then you will have to get it flushed out, since a transmission is a sealed unit there might not be anything to clean out, the flush might get the bulk of anything, I would definetly do a Auto-Rx tratment on the engine because you might not know how often the previous owner changed the oil, and changed the pcv, if that is neglected you can have some carbon in your engine, I change my PCV once a year and it is worth me spending the $3.00, hope this helps, you can post some more questions and I will be happy to answer.
