Auto-Rx Maintenance Dose with Extended Drain

The test vehicle is a 1992 Ford Explorer Sport, with a 4.0 liter single overhead cam V-6. Important to note that a cleaning and rinse with Auto-Rx was performed prior to the test.

Next, a short run on Mobil 1SUV/ 5w 30 was performed to establish the norm of this particular motor. This run on Mobil 1 was for only 1434 miles, but was sufficient to point out a couple issues that needed to be corrected. The analysis revealed that fuel dilution was the biggest issue and contributing to high copper readings, from bushing wear. Also, even though the air filter had been changed out only 8000 miles ago dirt ingress was an issue. Prior to starting the Auto-Rx Maintenance dose, with Pennzoil Platinum, new plugs, wires, PCV valve were installed. A new air filter was installed half way through the maintenance dose run which was for 6101 miles.

Despite the tune up parts, the motor still suffers from a fuel dilution problem, although greatly improved. When looking at the numbers bear in mind that the second run with the maintenance dose (3 fluid oz.) was run for a duration of 4.25 times the mileage as compared to the control.

The combination of Pennzoil Platinum and Auto-Rx shows exceptionally low wear metals, with the exception of copper, which is still due to fuel dilution. It is very likely, that the maintenance dose is providing addition protection of the cylinders and bearings. It is also important to note that the additive package of the Pennzoil Platinum is not compromised at all with the Auto-Rx maintenance dose, in fact may be somewhat preserved. Slightly elevated oxidation readings would indicate that the maintenance dose is doing some additional cleaning.

The Auto-Rx Maintenance Program in a SAAB 9-5 with photos
In November 2005 I purchased a used 2001 SAAB 9-5. Having a bit of experience with SAABs (my last car was a 1997 SAAB 900 turbo) I knew this... More

Here's a related experience--better MPG w/maintenance dose:

I've noticed that Auto-RX seems to work synergistically with conventional oil to improve gas mileage while it's cleaning. My limited experience with Auto-RX in 100% synthetic oil (Amsoil) indicates that it does indeed clean, but doesn't seem to work synergistically to improve gas mileage.

CASE IN POINT: Just finished apprx. 2000 mile run with 3 oz Auto-RX & Amsoil ASL 5W-30 in engine with apprx. 23,000 total miles on it. Prior frequent changes with synthetic oil & some LC20. During the 2000 mile maintenance dose (MD) run, I once noticed a cloud of light blue smoke at startup. This, to me, was an indication that Auto-RX was cleaning deposits, temporarily allowing oil to pass through the cleaned area (valve stem seals?). After changing oil/filter to Castrol GTX w/MD, I made apprx 70 mile round trip out of town & noticed scan gauge showing apprx. 1.5 real time MPG IMPROVEMENT.

Due to the very low miles I'm putting on this vehicle, & warranty required 6 mo OCI, I'll probably continue with conventional oil/Auto-RX MD til warranty expires, then long OCI's w/ 100% synthetic w/o MD & only occasional apprx 4.5k mi runs w/conventional oil/Auto-RX MD (4 oz planned).

I dont plan to ever use conventional oil again w/o MD, w/exception of Auto-RX rinse phase. Id rather not have to resort to full Auto-RX rinse/clean phases to remove the sludge, varnish, etc. left behind by years of conventional oil use w/o Auto-RX MD. Case in point above shows, IMO, that even synthetic oil leaves behind some deposits.

Continuous use MD's will be 3 oz w/conventional oil (next 4 years). Thereafter, was only thinking of occasional 4 oz MD with conventional oil (for apprx 4,500 miles) between long OCI's with 100% synthetic oil without MD.
Maybe a little more frquent 3,000 mile runs with 3 oz MD/conventional oil would be better?
Using a 25,000 mile filter (Amsoil EA), I figure I could run 100% synthetic oil without MD for 15-18k miles, drain & refill with conventional oil/MD, run for 3-4.5k miles, then drain, refill with synthetic oil without MD, change filter & start over again.
I would prefer just to run 100% synthetic oil with MD, but my experience thus far seems to indicate that fuel economy suffers (or is not enhanced). Could be that I'm drawing the wrong conclusion. I've been unsuccessful finding fuel economy data for 100% synthetic oil with MD.
However, I've experienced enhanced fuel economy with MD in conventional oil.

yota4me,

I have a Chrysler 2002 Town/Country with a 3.8 engine Chrysler recommends Dino oil I have always used synthetic oil but for the past 2 years I went to dino 5X30 Castrol oil with the thiner oil my gas miles increased and in my area gas prices are $ 3.10 and going up it helps save money. Auto-Rx will help increase my gas miles. Frank and I have been friends for 8 years and I know his product is for real I thought at first it was another Slick50 product man was I wrong. I think your program is great and will work you are one of the few that works ARX keep up the good work.
