question about synthetic oil
Permalink

Hello,
New to the forum.  Just ordered 3 bottles of Auto-Rx.  Bought oil (Castro GTX
5-30) and filter and waiting for the rx to arrive.  I just recently purchased a 1999 Passat with the 1.8T engine.  The car has less that 38,000 miles on it and runs great.  With the sluge problems of this model I decided to try your product to avoid costly engine problems later on.  When we were buying the oil at our local Auto Zone we were telling the gentlemen who helped us what we were doing.  He stated that if synthetic oil was used on the last oil change it was not a good idea to use the Castro.  Mixing the Castro and real synthetic oil would cause problems.  Wondering what you would advise.

Thanks

Tina Moser

When I was doing an ARX treatment on my 2000 1.8T Passat I used conventional oil during the clean and rinse cycles. Afterward I returned to using a VW approved oil along with a 3 oz. maintenance dose of ARX.

I know of no logical reason why you couldn't switch back and forth from regular to synthetic oil.

Welcome to Auto-Rx Forum any synthetic oil in your engine will be cleaned off during the cleaning cycle. Your not mixing oils. There is a problm with synthetic as it relates to sludge. The complex additive package in synthetic oil has one additive that hold oil to metal, this is not condusive to the continous process o liquifying
sludge (Rinsing Mode) and drive it to your filter.

WalMart Super Tech along with the Auto-Rx wil perform as good or better than any synthetic. Your not losing a thing on performance or lubrication.

The 3 ounce Auto-Rx Maintenace Dose will keep cleaning the new sludge and will do so even if you go back to synthetic. Why bother? let the 3 ounces focus on new sludge and not use it self up on another problem you can eliminate.

Thank you for your fast response!  I will use the castrol gtx oil I bought and
see what happens!  Will keep you informed of my progress.  I'm hoping for
better gas mileage and getting rid of sludge that may or maynot (probably is)
be there.

tinamosr,

Thank you for purchasing Auto-Rx it is a great product. I have used Castrol with ARX and it worked great for me just follow the instructions and you will be ok. I agree with Frank the maintenance program after cleaning and the rinse phase should be used to keep your engine clean and improve gas miles.

I used Castrol GTX for both phases in my truck, with good results. The statement that you cannot mix synthetic and conventional oil is simply a myth.
