Silly question but want to make sure
Permalink

Hi,  was introduced here by friends at another auto forum, would like to try Auto-rx after browsing online, but have a silly question (actually two, the other one on the transmission :p):

From the instruction, 12oz Auto-rx should be added to the existing motor oil, am I right that there will be 12oz MORE "liquid" ABOVE the normal oil level then?
or, I should add less motor oil into the engine, then add auto-rx to make the total oil level normal?

Thanks for reply in advance!

Do not overfill your crankcase- you should add Auto-Rx to bring it to the "FULL" mark on the dipstick which does mean less oil in the crankcase before adding.

I hate to tell you the bad news but what you need to do is put in the same amount of oil that you always have added and then put in Auto-Rx, please read the application instructions.

An extra 12oz above what you "normally" put in is not going to overfill your crankcase.

Hmmm... to me this is like saying "It is OK to go against the recommendation of the engine manufacturer by knowingly filling the crankcase oil level beyond 'FULL'". I would think- for liability reasons- that it should never even be implicitly suggested.

It's just my opinion though.

Thanks again for the replies!

I did read the instruction --- the reason for coming up with this silly question :p
So, go back to my first post, I should fill 12oz autoRx above the normal motor oil level!  And, this should be OK for the engine to run 2500 miles!
Just want to double check.

When you are doing the Auto-Rx thing, the product is basically going after all of the sludge and carbon deposits in your engine and liquifying them so that during the rinse phase it all goes to your oil filter, when I reread the application instructions it did not say anything like add 12 ounces less oil when you do the clean phase, I did 3 clean phases and did not have any problems, when I added 12 ounces of the product my oil level did not go up because if I am correct this product is a metal cleaner and does not change the oil level because my oil level did not go up.

12 ounces would not be considered a substantial "over-fill" of your crankcase. Add the required amount of oil, add 12 ounces of Auto Rx, and go on. Auto Rx does not change the chemistry of, or add to, your motor oil - it simply uses the oil as a carrier to be spread throughout the motor.

Of the hundreds of times I've checked my own oil and the dozens of times I've checked someone else's oil level....maybe twice was it already at the "FULL" line.

Heck, even after an oil change on my cars using the "correct" amount it's never at the full line.

Thanks for all the replies!

Just poured 12Oz ARX into my 96 accord (very fast shipping for my 3 bottles!), will take a long long time to reach the 2500miles though, maybe 10 months, my commute is short :p
