ARX and Engine Oil Capacity
Permalink

I am in the process of an ARX cleaning cycle in my Jeep 4.0L Inline 6 engine right now.  It holds a little more than 5 qts of oil.  My wife's Nissan Xterra holds a good bit less than 4 qts of oil.  If I do an ARX cleaning cycle on the Xterra should I adjust the amount of ARX I put in it.  25% (or so) less oil capacity seems like a different treatment is required to me...........

You could adjust the amount, but you don't have to (I added 9 oz of ARX to the 3.5 qts in our Honda). The ARX is not adding oil volume, it is using the oil to be spread throughout the engine.

Let me just throw out an observation. My brother-in-law and I are doing a ARX double dose test on a '91 Geo Storm. He changed the oil and filter, took compression readings prior to adding ARX. We took a dipstick reading, it was a little above full. Added two bottles (24 oz.) of ARX and then took another dipstick reading prior to starting the engine. It now looked to be a full quart above the full mark on the dipstick. Took the vehicle on a 30+ mile drive then took another dipstick reading. It was still a full quart above the full mark.
