I can honestly say that my Auto-Rx experience as well as my dilema with oil filters was different than everybody else's because I started the process when my car had 343,000 miles. I recently talked with someone on this board about his car being down on power, I told him too change his oil filter, he did and now it is running great, he said to me what if someone does not want to change there oil filter during the middle of the Clean or Rinse Phases, I told him they will have crud floating around the engine, I did by accident 2 clean phases, then a rinse, then another clean and rinse, now I am on my 2nd Maintenance Dose, so that should be 6 oil filters I should have used and now I should be on my 7th, but I am on my 21st oil filter, so technically I have used 14 more oil filters so 14X $4.00 give or take and I have spent an extra $56.00 on oil filters, what I am trying to say is that I would never have gotten the results that I have now by using only 7 oil filters, of course add in $28.00 for the extra oil each time I have dumped a filter, so $84.00 is cheaper than a new engine. During the Clean and Rinse Phases if your car is slightly overheating or down on power your oil filter is clogged, everytime I noticed a drop in power I changed the oil filter and it was clogged, why is this happening, well the liquified crud is in the pleats of the oil filter are not letting oil flow through, all of the oil filter's I cut open were heavy because they were filled up with oil because the pleats of the oil filter were filled with crud, every engine is different and we cannot know how much junk is inside the engine, the instructions say what they say but everyone using this product needs to be aware of what is going on in there situation, meaning Auto-Rx users have to stay on top of how there oil filters are doing, there were times during the rinse phase where I was changing oil filter's at 200, 300, 400, and 500 miles, that is just the way it goes, so we cannot blame Auto-Rx it is the oil filter's that can only handle so much. You might ask why is the car running sluggish, down on power, or maybe overheating when the oil filter is full, it is because the oil pump is pumping liquified crud which is maybe not the greatest lubricant. These are just my unscientific thoughts from going through the Auto-Rx process. I hope this information helps everyone.
I am 2000 miles into my 2nd Maintenance Dose and now I am getting about 1000 miles between oil filters, this is better than when I was only getting about 500 miles between oil filters, I was driving home last Friday night and noticed the car felt a little down on power, sure enough when I got the oil filter off it had oil trapped in the pleats as well as a black grime substance in the pleats. Once I changed the oil filter and drove it the next day the car drove a lot better.
I wonder if another clean/rinse phase would benefit your truck since you have to keep changing that oil filter. Is it possible that there is still some grime/sludge in that motor that needs to be cleaned out.
I checked with another guy on this board and he thinks that I am at the end of my issues and that there would be no benefit from another Clean and Rinse.
I wonder if there is a point of diminishing returns when using auto rx, I have read of people who have done 3 clean/rinse phases but most here on this forum seem to stop at 2.
The only thing that I can say that every engine is different, these last 2 oil filters were different in that the oil that was dumped from the old filter was fairly clean looking, meaning it was not dark, I am going to just stay the course on the Maintenance Dose.
Hello everyone. Is there such a thing as doing to many "clean and rinse" phases? I think Auto-Rx is a bargain and have no problem of doing a "clean and rinse" on the engine yearly for life it if helps. It's kinda fun working on my 4Runner and Q45T, but my neighbors think I am a little nutty evaluating oil and constantly making sure my automobiles are running "top notch". I know I am not alone! Take care ps. I would like to say Frank Miller is a top notch guy, always great about answering my questions, loving this Auto-RX!
After you have cleaned and gone through the rinse phase the below infromation is what you want to continue with. If you want to clean the engine again wait until you have gone at least 25K miles before you before you start.

When you finish your Auto-Rx application these are just some of the results. You have restored your engines compression and also the efficiency of your engines combustion.
The maintenance program keeps the chemistry and benefits just like they were after application. You never have to clean your engine again.
Add 3oz of Auto-rx to every oil change. For sludged engines add 4oz to every oil change.
To ellaborate: I quite don't know the condition of the internals of my engine, I just bought it with 64,000 miles. Removing the oil filler cap, I look inside and there is a light coating of dirt/grime, maybe sludge? With the sludge application and autos with over 100,000 miles, Auto-Rx recommends a second application. Maybe I err toward that and do it twice, followed by the maintenance program and 25,000 miles later, I will do an application again. Sounds like a plan!
I normally use K&N or Mobil1 filters, but since I plan on using quite a few in this process, what cheapo brand filter would you suggest (Fram, Purolator, xx brand?)
I know there's a whole other forum and tons of threads about filters, (that's why I use what I use), but there's got to be a cheap alternative that is favored by members here during the clean and rinse phases.
Thanks

You know, if you buy in bulk, OEM filters are about $3.50-$4.00 each, pretty safe bet. I'll stick to that, no more, no less. If an oil filter is approved thru the auto manufacturer, it's good enough for me that the performance aspect is satisfactory.
For the rinse cycles, I would switch over to Super Tech filters and just plan on changing them quite often to be safe. Or you could pull the first one and see how bad it is and go from there. I know we try to keep things simple by only recommending the filter changes for sludged engines but if you don't mind getting your hands oily I would err on the side of caution and pull the filters as often as you would feel comfortable.
