OK, I've read these type of posts before with Auto-RX where others have screwed up and doubled dosages or ran two Clean cycles back to back, and I always thought, Just HowTF could they have managed to do that?! Well, no longer can I shake my head, I've gone and done it myself...
I changed my dad's 2nd Clean out tonight, 6 Qts. of fresh dino Havoline 5W-30 went in, a new filter, and - like an idiot - a whole bottle of Auto-RX.
So now I'm basically starting a 3rd Clean w/o having ever done a Rinse between it and the 2nd Clean.
Do I need to drain this 3rd Clean out, replace the filter, and get back on track with the 2nd Rinse? What do you all think?
Chuck
P.S. I don't feel the engine is sludged up if that helps...and Yes, I'm an idiot.
Auto-Rx can,t hurt anything, so your dad,s car will be fine. If it is feasable drain that oil out and save it (you could calll it a pre-mix use it on another car) go to rinse mode with a group 11 oil (eg.Walmart Super Tech) start your rinse mode for 3000 miles and rinse again for another 3000 miles. Think you will be fine. Keep a good check on oil filter it might get full quickly if so spin on another filter and top off with cleaning oil brand.
Your not any differen.t than lots of others our former application instructions were hard to understand.
Please go to www.auto-rx.com and click on application page, think you will find they are simple straightforward and in a normal cleaning your using 2 bottles and that includes maintenance dose.
No harm done. Not as effective as having rinsed inbetween, but not all is lost. A little wastefull however, this third bottle could have been used in the maintenance dose mode over 4 OCI's after your second rinse, that you missed.
I'm not sure now if I'll be able to change it, and save it, by the time he leaves on a pre-hunting trip. I could always get my brother to take it to a quick change shop, but, there would go the oil w/ Auto-RX in it. At this point (unfortunately), I think this 3rd Clean is going to be in there for a couple thousand miles at least. :(
I know this isn't ideal, and isn't the Process at all, but, what do I do when he gets back?
Go with two Rinse's in a row?
I know you've said a million times in the past to not use a Rinse oil that has Group 4 or 5 oils in it as the contaminants will be held to the engine by the polarity of the Group 4/5 oil...hence the reason to use cheap oil as it's likely made up of only a combination of Groups 1-3. Auto-RX has the polarity effect, so what I've got in there now is fresh oil, plus polar Auto-RX. Is it worse at this point to be running a 3rd Clean as a 2nd Rinse than it would be for me to just get my bro to take it to a quick change place and get the 3rd Clean out? I mean, it's a definite loss, but, a few thousand $$$ engine vs. $50 of product is a no brainer decision to make. What exactly happens when two Cleans are run back to back??
I can't believe I F'd up what are very simple Auto-RX instructions...this is like embarrassing....
