I'm nearing the end of my second ARX application, although I'm running an extended rinse phase at the moment (4,000 miles instead of 3,000). But here's a question that keeps me wondering.
My vehicle was maintained by the dealer for 9 years running, and the oil they use has partially recycled motor oil content. I beleive one of the reasons why my vehicle has burned oil so many times (4 times over the course of 8 years) was because of the poor quality oil they use. My vehicle's not abused in anyway and has always been maintained regularly approx. 150 miles before the service interval. That being said, I initially started using ARX because of my oil burning problem.
Now here's what confuses me. During the cleaning and rinse phases of both my ARX applications, my engine has used just over 1 quart in between oil changes (usually near the 2,000 mile mark on a 3,000 mile OCI). Although the blue smoke has almost completely stopped, I still get a bit of smoke every now and then. Mainly when I hit the gas after the engine's been idling. Taking all of this into consideration, I'm tempted to go ahead with a third application of ARX - but I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile? Thanks!
Edit: I now used a Group III Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 10W-30 instead of the oil they use at the dealer. My rinse phase is with a locally produced Group II motor oil, with a 100% virgin petroleum base.
First change your motor oil and filter. Add 2 ounces of Auto-Rx® for each quart of oil your engine holds.
Auto-Rx works best with conventional (non-synthetic) motor oil. If you feel you must use a synthetic motor oil we recommend using a Group III oil to avoid competing chemistries.
At 2,500 miles change your oil and filter again, but do not add Auto-Rx or any other additive. Drive an additional 3,000 miles, then change your oil and filter again.
Vehicles with over 100,000 miles require a second application. Repeat the instructions outlined above.
An additional 1,000 - 3,000 miles maybe required before oil consumption is significantly reduced or stopped altogether. For best results it is recommended you use conventional motor oil, without Auto-Rx or any other product within this period. If oil burning persists a second application will be necessary, regardless of mileage. Do not begin a Auto-Rx Maintenance Plan until excessive oil burning is significantly reduced or has stopped.
We strongly recommend you continue to use non-synthetic oil if possible and that you follow up your treatment by going on the Auto-Rx Maintenance Plan. This will ensure a clean motor and prevent future oil burning problems.
If you feel you must use a synthetic motor oil we recommend using a Group III oil to avoid competing chemistries. (see above) MOTORCRAFT SYNTHETIC BLEND HAS COMPLEX ADDITIVE PACKAGE ONE OF THESE ADDITIVES HOLDS OIL TO METAL. AUTO-RX IS TRYING TO REMOVE CONTAMINANTS OFF OF INTERNALS
Your using Group III Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 10W-30 this is not a group 111 oil. Ypou have three choices one you already have done by extending mileage with just oil to 4000 miles. Or change out to say Castrol GTX or stay with your group 11 rinse oil for 3000 miles .

Your still burning contaminants no need for a third Auto-Rx Application, want fast results change oil to group 11 top off with oil if necessary (no need for more Auto-Rx ) and finish application.
Thanks, Frank! That was indeed the application I followed. Although after asking around, I concluded that Motorcraft Synthetic Blend was a "Group III", despite being hydrocracked. But now I know it isn't. I'll just stay with the Group II rinse oil under these circumstances. I reckon it would be alright to start the maintenance dose at my next oil change?
Nobody knows who makes Ford Motorcraft Syhthetic Blend here is a good guess.
FULL SYNTHETICS AND SYNTHETIC BLENDS
WHY ARE KENDALL FULL SYNTHETIC AND SYNTHETIC BLENDS BETTER?
Kendall Full Synthetic and Synthetic Blend motor oils are formulated from the highest quality premium synthetic. The result is engine protection that is superior to conventional motor oils.
Think of Kendall Synthetic motor oils as extra insurance for your engine. You probably spend hundreds of dollars each year to insure your car against an occasional accident. So why not spend a few dollars more for a synthetic blend oil change or a little bit extra for a full synthetic oil change? After all, the engine is the heart and soul of your car. It's worth every penny.
NOTE IF YOUR USING THE Auto-Rx maintenance dose with group 11 oil you have better protection than above. with a group 111 outstanding performance and protection.

I think you are confused. There is no Group 111 (one-hundred eleven), it is III (Roman numerals for 3)
