When I did auto-rx in my El Camino which at the time had 343,000 miles, was to drive it a lot. Every night I would take the car out unless the weather was bad.
I would take it for a 60 mile run through the country roads and up onto the highway for a few miles and then come back home. Auto-rx is heat activated and the only way to loosen crud and liquify it so it goes to your oil filter is to drive the car for an extended period of time. A long drive is going to get the car nice and hot, short trip driving is not going to get you the results you want.
I know from watching my neighbors work vehicle which he uses to go on estimates for a glass company, he puts 40,000 miles a year on his car and is basically driving the car all over Maryland from Monday to Friday. He has never had any kind of sludge issues.
If you change your oil frequently and do short trips you are going to have some sludge problems or have other contaniments build up, it does not matter what type of car you have.
The way you drive your car and how many miles you drive the car every day is going to dictate the internal condition of your engine.
Auto-rx works if you let it work, meaning you need to drive the car the way I did during the Clean and Rinse Phases. If you are going to do short trip driving, meaning 5 miles or less then you cannot blame auto-rx if you think you are not getting results.
I also wanted to point out that it is a good idea to check your thermostat, I would not go by the gauge or idot light as these are not very accurate. After you have driven the car for 10 miles or more, you should be getting heat. I would also recommend after you come back from where you are going, it might be a good idea to pop the hood and feel the upper radiator hose, it should be very hot.
If your upper radiator hose is cool you have a stuck thermostat and you will be creating sludge and other problems.
If you have some oil light come on worry about it after the Rinse Phase is over.
I am seeing posts where people seem to blame auto-rx for any problems that they are having, you need to give this product time, the more you drive the car the faster you will get results.
These things need to be working properly in order to get the best results:
1) Clean PCV 2) Unrestricted PCV Hose 3) Cooling System ( Running Warm To Hot, Not Cold) 4) Tune Up (New Spark Plugs) 5) Clean Fuel Injectors 6) Running The Proper Weight Oil 7) Run Cheap Dino Oil
I have gotten results, I can only access this sight at the library, so if you have questions, contact Frank and he will give you my e-mail address.
I want everyone to follow the application instructions, sorry I did not mention that. It is important to follow the application instructions because this is what is proven to work.
