I have a 1997 E39 and am over 1500km on the clean phase (i.e. instead of doing rinse at 4000km, I still haven't done it at 5500km).
Should I proceed as normal to the rinse phase using dino oil or do I need to take some extra precautions?

No need for extra precauctions. Proceed to rinse phase. It is a good idea to get rid of contaminants Auto-Rx has already cleaned.

I'm planning on using a 20W-50 dino oil but a friend of mine suggested that it was too thick.
Thoughts?

terp,
What does the manufacture recommend? And use the oil they recommend.
