Firstly, can you tell me what the basic application is for? A mild build up of sludge?
I have a 1.8T Passat. 60000 miles. The engine runs fine. Minimal oil use. But I do get a little mechanical tapping. I don't think I have heavy sludge! Hopefully a basic application would suffice.
But if I end up going for the heavy sludge application, I am not sure of the exact amount of oil & filters I would need. The way I see it, to do two full cycles: 4 packs of oil 8 oil filters 2 packs of Auto RX Followed by another oil & filter change at the end.
Does this look right?
Thanks for your time
steve
PS: I drive around 3 to 5 thousand miles a year, With my car sitting for several days at a time without use. Then doing only shortish journeys. Is there a time span that Auto RX bacis or heavy sludge needs to be done in? I see there is a Fast Track application.

No, just do it at your own pace. One of the keys is to get the engine up to normal operating temperature as ARX is heat activated. Oil temperature always lags behind water temperature, so allow 20-30 minutes for it to reach it's peak.
The basic application is for all motors as a maintenance procedure to rid the engine of harmful deposits. Deposits don't form overnight, they are something that grow towards causing less than optimal engine performance and lubrication. In high mileage cars two treatments are suggested. For engines that are severely sludged there are modified applications. For rotational seal leaks there are modified application instructions.
