I am running ARX in my 1994 Mazda. I also have a 1976 MG Midget and a 1957 International Harvester Pickup truck. The MG has the engine rebuilt and has about 5000 miles on the rebuilt engine. Am in the process of rebuilding the engine in the IH.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations about the oils (synthetic or dino?) to be used in these cars. Also how much ARX to use?

I will post an update about my Mazda in the appropriate thread. I should be going in to the clean phase pretty soon.

Cheers

I'd say the sensible oil selection in weight and composition should be dictated by the type of service they'll see. If they're going to be Sunday drivers, then a conventional would probably make the most sense. I don't know what climate you're in, so it's hard to say if these will be garaged 9months out of the year and driven a bunch in the summer ..or driven weekends year round.

Your 1976 MG may have managed to control fuel dilution due to the emissions requirements that were in place at the time. I know that you had to use a 50 grade so you could keep the oil in a few thousand miles in the 60's since it would be loaded with fuel.

The IH carb'd engine would be similar, but not as serious as the older typical British machinery. Again, your MG may have managed better fuel management by 1976.

Depending on climate conditions, I'd probably use a HDEO for both. 15w-40 should work for both if you want one oil to stock. A synthetic like Rotella T 5w-40 might allow you longer drains, but I imagine that expense really isn't a factor in your case.

As far as how much to use routinely ..add 3oz to each oil change.
