Most likely yes. Auto-Rx is a relatively slow, methodical cleaner that will dissolve sludge as you drive. As long as the oiling system is not fully plugged up, and the oil pump pick up screen is still open for oil flow. Auto-Rx can only work if oil is freely flowing. There is a complete application for sludged motors in the application section of the site. In comparison to the normal or standard application, the miles driven are shorter.
The shorter application guarantees that you dont dissolve more contaminants than what the host oil and filter can handle. Sludged motors typically take two or possibly three applications. The use of conventional oil is recommended for sludged motors, both in the cleaning phase and rinse phases.
When we say that Auto-Rx is a relatively slow methodical cleaner, it means that Auto-RX will dissolve contaminants in the highest heat and oil flow areas of the motor first. These areas are the working guts of the motor. Less important surface area within the lubrication system will clean up last, likely in the second application.
Once you have the motor cleaned up, the use of a smaller amount of Auto-RX, called the maintenance dose should be used with each oil change to keep your motor clean. You should also consider, why you got a sludged motor in the first place. Perhaps it was due to neglect with respect to oil change intervals. As a general rule oil change intervals on conventional oils should be every 3000 to 4000 miles. Synthetics can normally be run 4000 to 5000 miles.
