Another 200 miles or so and my first rinse phase will be done. The car will have about 129K miles by the time the rinse cycle is done. The lifter noise is still there and the car still blows blue smoke, when I start it up on some days. Unlike other users - the oil never did change color to really dark. I still have about 2 bottles of ARX at home and I might as well use them.
Should I do another Clean/Rinse cycle? I will be doing a lot of driving over the next few weeks. Also if I go to the maintenance dose and use Mobil 5000 oil, how many miles is recommended will I have to go between oil changes?
I am halfway into the final rinse phase. I have not driven much at all, since my move to MN.
However, the lifter noise has gone down considerably over the last few months. However, the blue smoke at startup is still a problem. I don't think this is something that will go away that easily.
Anyway after this clean phase - am thinking of switching to a synthetic blend while I do my maintenance dose - any recommendations as to what oil to use? It is really cold up here in MN - and I was thinking of running a 5w-20 oil.
Could you mention where in MN you are? Also what type of vehicle is it and how many miles on it? It may be a good idea to consider a synthetic instead of a synthetic blend. Depending on how far north in MN you are might not be a bad idea to look at a 0w-20 oil or at least a full synthetic 5w-20. To be honest I don't have much knowledge of synthetic blend oils and don't know if they are that much better than dino oil. I feel that a synthetic oil in the winter will flow better on those cold MN mornings. Being a Cheesehead in WI we have our share of cold ones too.
Thanks for the reply. I am way up North. Up in Bemidji, MN. I was thinking about a 0w-20 synthetic too. However what group of oil should I use, in order to continue and get the best out of my Auto-Rx, maintenance dose? Its a 94 MAzda 626, with a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. The car has about 135,000 miles on it!
