I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II with about 96K on the engine. I have developed a slight ticking in the engine, coming from the back drivers side. I found this website from searching my Land Rover Forum and after reading a LOT of information ordered two bottles of ARX yesterday. I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to after searching the forums here.
1 - This truck has always had full synthetic oil with changes done at proper OCIs. I'll be buying dino oil for the cleanse and rinse cycles, but am a little concerned about the issues with the Land Rover flat tappet engines. Any input?
2 - What weight dino oil would you recommend for the upcoming COLD Colorado winter? I have no garage, but do have a block heater.
3 - With the engine tick I'm thinking the Sludge application, but I really don't put much mileage on the truck, only being 3 miles from work....so, Fast Track instead? Maybe a hybrid of the two?
If you want to do the basic application using synthetic oil the ratio of Auto-Rx to each quart of synthetic is 4 ounces. I would extend cleaning to 3000 miles and using synthetic (no Auto-Rx ) to rinse would extend that mileage to 3500 miles.
Doing the basic application with "Dino" Castrol GTX would work as well as AMSOIL XL or Pennsoil in a yellow bottle. Viscosity should be what manufacture states.
At 96k think basic app would be the thing to do. Auto-Rx will take on the viscosity of the host oil in your engine as long as the oil can flow so will Auto-Rx.
