Does Chevron Delo 400 work with Auto-RX?

Frank,

Interested in your thoughts on whether the following oils work well with Auto-RX in both the cleaning/rinsing cycle and the post-rinse regular operation phase:

- Chevron Delo 400 Multigrade 15W-40 (not LE)

- Chevron Supreme 10W-30

That's what I'm using except with Delo 10w30. Great add pack. It's a group II oil so why do you think it wouldn't work?

Good luck...

Rob

For regular operation, is there any reason not to run a 'High Mileage' oil?

I know High Mileage oils are not recommended for the cleaning/rinsing cycle, but I am wondering about afterwards in the normal operation phase.

Considering Chevron Supreme High Mileage 10W-30 or High Mileage 10W-40.

ELW,

The updated instructions for the ARX maintenance plan accommodate conventional,  high mileage and synthetic oils.  Each has a different ARX concentration.

http://auto-rx.com/pages/maint_program.html

I hope this helps.  I, for one, look forward to using conventional oil only after the oil consumption issues in my Jeep Liberty get resolved.  I'm in the middle of the rinse phase and that car has gone from 600 miles per quart to 1,200 miles per quart.  I hope to be on the way toward avoiding the need for a high mileage oil.

Best wishes,

BR,

Are you running the regular Delo 400 10W-30 or the Delo 400 LE 10W-30 ?

Hello PnP,

I did not write my prior question clearly.

I do not plan to run the ARX ongoing maintenance treatment, just the regular clean and rinse.

I use the term 'operational phase' to mean the normal usage phase after completing ARX clean and rinse cycles.

I am aware that the updated ARX instructions "allow" high mileage oil in the operational phase.

My question is:  Is non-high mileage oil preferred in the operational phase?

I can use either oil type, and if regular (non-high mileage) oil is preferred in the operational phase, I'll use it.

There's no reason to use a high mileage oil without cause. That is, if you've got seals weeping or leaking. Auto-Rx will have cleaned off any dirt or hardened shell preventing them from doing their job. If that cleaning still results in weepage or seepage, then a seal swelling agent, that's present in HM oils, may be sensible.

geeaea,

Your comment makes sense.

I will start with a lower viscosity non-high mileage oil and see how it goes for my usual 6,000 mile oil change interval.

I'll progress through the oils as follows, increasing viscosity and saving HM oils for last, until I significantly reduce or eliminate burn/leakage:

Chevron Supreme 10W-30
Chevron Supreme 10W-40
Chevron Delo 400 Multigrade 15W-40 (not LE)
Chevron Supreme High Mileage 10W-30
Chevron Supreme High Mileage 10W-40

Those should work well. Just make sure you go at least one oil change interval beyond the rinse cycle before reacting. It may take that long to relax.
