A friend of mines hondas transmission has been bucking. She ran out to the local trans. service place and got a 3K estimate. I asked her to try ARX before she plunked down 3K. She agreed and I poured the whole bottle into her AT. Did I screw up?

Yes you somehow doubled the dose, but I think the only thing you will hurt is your wallet. You could ask Frank or Rich Ecklund, but if it was me, I would go ahead and run it 1000 miles, then do a complete flush and see how things are afterwards. Depending on what is faulty in the unit, this may or may not help at all.

I agree with bmwtechguy. You already know that the tranny may have had it so you really can't do any more damage to it. Auto-RX can't repair a mechanically damaged tranny but it won't hurt it either. If the problems are caused by a partially clogged valve body or dirt it may help. Before I would plunk down $3,000 for a tranny I'd get a second opinion from a Honda dealer. It could be something else too.

Just make sure the ATF level is not too high. If it is too high it can froth and cause more damage. Check the fluid level when the ATF is at operating temperature and after cycling through the gears and while the engine is running and in park.
If the fluid is above the max line, you must get some out of there.

Make sure you are really supposed to have it running when you check the level. On the Hondas I have seen, you shut it OFF, and than check it a minute later. If you fill it to full mark with engine running, you will be overfilled.
Ahh, didn't know Hondas wanted the engine off. do check your manual. But if it says to check the level when hot be sure it really is at normal operating temp. If it's cold outside, run it around town for a good 20 minutes or more. It takes a while to get up to temp unlike the engine which has combustion to warm it up.

Hondas had a major problem with the 2nd gear needle bearing. they won't admit it but they screwed up big time, and for about 7 yrs. a ton of the trans 2nd gear bearing did not get sufficient lubrication and it of course caused over heating of the bearing. thereby causing the trans. to have a major failure. Unfortunately, my family had 5 vehicles in these selected years and yes, 5 out of 5 had the same trans failure. it's not an issue with maint, but more of a poor trans design. Honda atf z4 should be replaced every 15k unfortunately, because of the poor design the bearing and the atf oil gets over heated and worn out or stressed out to quickly.
I have no idea as to validity of this explianation however to be sure after cleaning out transmission with Auto-Rx i would use 1/2 ounce of Auto-rx as a maintenance dose.
