Oil for Rinse stage
Permalink

hey all,

So I am almost done with the cleaning stage, using Valvoline conventional. I plan on doing an oil change next weekend and want to use a synthetic for the rinse stage (just because I take lots of small trips and would rather have that extra degree of protection). Can I use Pennzoil Ultra or only Platinum? I understand Mobil 1 is not a good idea? Thanks in advance

Hello stay with your current oil Auto-Rx in engine during rinse stage will keep your oil performance way above average.

You are only going to have it in there for 3,000 miles so I don't think it would be an issue either. Might not be a bad idea to take it out on the freeway for a half hour or so once a week for the Auto-RX to work better and get the engine hot.

yeah, I try to do that every saturday.

So even though I change the oil out, Auto-RX still remains in the engine? if I understand this correctly, the rinsing is what actually gets it out?
thanks

Valvoline conventional will work fine for the rinse phase for 3,000 miles.  Anytime you are going 3,000 miles or less, the difference between synthetic and conventional is small.  If you want to go with something better, Pennzoil Platinum is a group iii and should be fine.  Not sure about Ultra
