This Honda has 92,000 miles and I have had the Honda dealer do all the oil changes the past 7 years.  This past year, the vehicle start using about 1 quart per 1,000 miles.  Just recently found PVC plugged up, even though they do maintence, they never changed it in many years.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Honda.  Do you have any suggestions for me.  Thx   F

A PCV valve replacement doesn't normally fall under routine dealer service. You have to request it.

Let me give you an example of the importance of replacing the PCV valve on a regular basis. I became involved in the maintenance of a '96 Civic belonging to a family member after the oil pressure light came on and it was discovered the engine was down 2 or more quarts of oil.

I changed the oil for them and started tracking the oil consumption rate, which turned out to be a consistant quart every 1,700 miles. I did a ARX treatment and nothing improved. I decided to replace the PCV valve (which had never been replaced before) and do a second ARX treatment. The oil consumption then improved to a quart every 3,000 miles. Or 3,300 miles when running a high mileage oil.

In this vehicle I've also used ARX in the automatic transmission. A huge amount of contaminent accumulated on the magnetic drain plug as a result, when compared with previous fluid changes not using ARX.

Turbo Jim;  Thanks for your input.  What kind of oil do you use?  How long have you used Auto RX?

How much do you use in Transmission? How much before and transmission oil change?

In the '96 Civic I've used what ever was on sale at the time, but most always the Honda recommended 5W-30. Same goes for oil filters, just what ever is on sale or part of an oil change special. I've been using ARX since at least 2007.

I've not been brand loyal when it comes to ATF either, although this last time I used Valvoline Maxlife ATF. I don't recall exactly how long I kept ARX in the old ATF but I would guess it was longer than what is currently recommended - http://www.auto-rx.com/transmissions.html#automatic. Since it's not my car I can never completely control it's routine maintenance.
