2002 Nissan Altima oil useage
Permalink

HOla,

I have just recently ordered 3 bottle of ARX for my Altima. Here's my issue: before temporarily switching to 10W-40 I had to put about 1/4 a quart of oil in my car every other day. I took it to my mechanic as I thought perhaps I had valve stem issues. My mechanic informed me that the valve stems were fine and the noise I was hear was coming from the pistons(piston slap?) My mechanic advised I switch to 10W-40 as he thinks that I have worn rings and perhaps worn cylinders. Since I've made the switch, I've only had to add a bit of oil after going two weeks.

The bottom line is that I'm not satisfied. That being said, I will be performing the "Sludge Removal and Oil Burning" instructions with ARX. My thinking(and I could be all wet about it) is that my rings are stuck and that the oil galleys are sludged to the point that the only place for the oil to go is out. I am not seeing much smoke that would be indicative of excessive oil blow-by. Should I stick with 10W-40 for the ARX or use 5W-30 which is what it normally uses?

Please let me know your thoughts,

Thankyou,

Scott

Hello, Frank and thank you for the quick response. I'll be changing the oil out and using the AR-X plus in the 'Fasttrack" application, correct? I will certainly let all know what my results are. I figure I have a good chance of eliminating or severely limiting my oil loss problem. I figure $71.00 vs 2-3k to replace the engine is a good bet, especially if it solves the problem. I've used you product before in past vehicles and with good results.

Till later,

Scott

Hello think you might be a good candidate for Auto-Rx Plus Application. Use the oil your OEM specifies. Let me know your results Frank

Changed oil and added 2 bottles ARX Plus. I'm using Mobil 5000 5W-30. Ran engine for 5 minutes as instructed, then took it for 20 mile spin to make sure ARX mixed in.
2002 Nissan Maxima 134,000 miles, 2.5L engine
@ 30 miles a day weekday driving to and from work; weekends about 50 miles. I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle to be exact).
I'm told I drive like a Grandpa (I'm 47). Not that the aforementioned makes difference, but just in casebiggrin

So far I've driven just over 120 miles, nothing out of the ordinary to report as of yet. I figure It will take me 3 weeks or so to get to the 750-1000 mile range. I plan on rinsing with the same oil.

350 mile report

After the above mentioned mileage, I've used between 1/3 to 1/4 quart of oil. Oil useage is after 9 days of driving. Piston slap has been reduced, compression is up a little and engine is quieter. I consider the oil useage to be normal, eh?

Driving has been to and from work, for the most part, with 2 trips of over 60 miles round trip.  Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Scott

Auto-Rx Plus is in the clean mode and you need to be patient and get the miles necessary. After you get to rinse mode and finish that. You should have hard data, that will only improve after going on the Auto-Rx Maintenance Program. I just put up photos and text on this board
regarding maintenance program . Hope you can look at link. Thank you for keeping us informed.

Thank you, Frank.

I will most definitely be going on the maintenance program after the rinse phase. In the meantime I will keep the board informed of any changes/progress.

600 mile report:

Have used about a 1/2 quart, consider this normal and part of the cleaning phase. Engine is beginning to run noticeably smoother and compression is way better than it used to be. ARX+ must be

cleaning the ring pack, not to mention the other internals.  Will be running to 1000 miles then rinse phase. So far I am very please with the results to date.

I changed the oil today, just over 1000 miles. The rinse phase has begun. After changing the oil and pouring it into the storage receptacle, I noticed at the end of pouring that there was some darker, thicker residue I hadn't seen in previous changes. Without knowing more, I would say that it was emulsified sludge from the ARX+ doing its work.

Among other things, I've noticed that fuel economy is slightly higher and far more consistent than it has ever been. It will be interesting to track changes/improvements over the course of the rinse phase and into the maintenance doses.

Hello your doing fine. When it is time go on Auto-Rx Plus Maintenance Plan. Think you will feel and see major positive performance changes during your first maintenance application. Thank you again for your diligence in following the instructions and your excellent posts.

I am about 600 miles into the rinse phase; oil loss has risen a bit but is not as bad as it was before. I will continue rinse phase to 1000 miles then go on maintenance program. My question is: do you think another fast track application would help( I know it won't hurt) or should I just play it conservative and see how it does once I'm on the maintenance program?

Compression and performance are still much improved from what they ever were before ARX+.

Thank you,

Scott

Frank,

Thank you very much for your quick replies. I will do as you've said and go on maintenance program once rinse phase has completed. Also, thank you again for making such an excellent product; I spread the word about it as much as I can.smile

I reached the 1000 mile mark today and changed the oil(okay, I cheated and was only at 995 miles); the maintenance program has begun. I changed oil(Mobil 5000 5W30) and added 3 oz of ARX+. I will monitor and report as necessary. Hoping to see reduced oil consumption, but I realize this may take some time. Performance has still been noticeably better, despite the oil useage.

As always, comments are always welcome :)

I have reached the 1000 mile mark of the maintenance program. There is still oil consumption but it is less than it was before, so, overall I am pretty satisfied with what is happening. Mileage has leveled off and is very, very consistent--more consistent than is has ever been.
