I don’t think that there is an incompatability issue with the fluid. I just think that the poor operation of the CVT is spent fluid. Typically the CVT fluid should be changed out every 20,000 miles. The fluid gets sheared down quickly, the traction grit in the fluid formula gets exhausted, or the fluid loses its cooling properties, are the reason for poor performance. It is not because the CVT units are dirty. Typically Mitsubishi CVT units start whining and the lock up feature gets jerky with only 25,000 miles on the fluid. Changing out the fluid alone seems to correct all issues.
What we need to find is a unit that does not respond well to a fluid change, for experimentation.
