Heavy Duty Sludge How Can I Know ?

Hi XXXX

At this point you need more miles of operation to continue cleaning. You are working with a full synthetic motor oil. From here on just add motor oil as needed and continue driving to the 4500 mile mark. I am hopeful that the rate at which you need to add oil becomes lesser along the way. There are situations whereby sludge has become so bad that some  of the drain holes in the heads are plugged in completely. When this occurs oil is getting pumped up to the valve train at a faster rate than the oil can gravity drain down through the heads back to the oil pan for recirulation.

Thus under the valve cover is flooded and oil gets sucked right out of the PCV valve and gets burned. If the drains are only partially plugged Auto-Rx will work to restore circulation. If some or many are totally plugged, then there is very little circulation and very little cleaning will occur in these areas.

You can check this by doing the following. After the car has sat overnight, pull the dipstick and note the extact level on the dipstick. Next start the motor and let it run for 5 minutes. Shut the motor off and wait 2 minute before checking the oil level on the dipstick. It should be exactly where it was when you started. If it is not then you likely have the drain holes completely sealed off. In this case it is usually necessary to try and mechanically open up these drain holes.
