Okay, I know all about MPG threads on BITOG. I'm usually one of the critics of "increases". I also hadn't noticed any difference in performance, MPG, or anything during my first treatment of ARX. Now see/hear this...
I am currently on the 2nd cleaning phase of ARX in my car - a 1993 Mazda MX6 2.0L 5spd. It is rated at 26/34 EPA MPG and I have a long-term average of 33.0 MPG currently. I just took a roadtrip to Vegas (700 miles roundtrip) on the 2nd clean phase. My "normal" mileage is 90%+ highway, and I have a few past roadtrips to compare with. But no matter how I compare, this past trip had THE best MPG I've seen; especially given the fact I was doing 80-85MPH for some stretches and crawling in traffic for others. Normally I don't drive over 75 or have traffic; so pretty much the variables are against this trip for highest MPG. The only time I've gotten better than this was coming home to sea level from Mammoth at 9,000 ft - so it was mostly downhill.
Okay enough background, here's some data: 06/11/06 328.00 34.94 past hwy miles trips 12/30/06 459.00 35.04 same trip in december Recent data: 04/11/07 446.00 33.93 04/17/07 431.00 34.07 04/23/07 446.00 34.68 04/29/07 441.00 34.42 05/03/07 299.00 33.70 05/07/07 456.00 37.72 to Vegas + ~100mi normal driving 05/10/07 484.00 36.44 from Vegas + ~100mi normal driving
AND this was on Pennzoil 10w30 DINO! I always run syn, except for the ARX phases. Kinda wish I had syn though, when my temp gauge went up on a couple longish gradual hills:
I am not suprized at your results. It is highly likely that your rings and lans have mated as one, not allowing your rings to mate effectively with the cylinder walls on that 93 unit. Performance and longevity go hand in hand with optimal ring sealing.
