I've seen that before, it's a real shame. The previous owner of my car paid tons of money for a new timing belt/water pump and when I took it in to a different Acura dealership to get a valve adjustment they told me it was still the original belt. So in other words, the original owner (an elderly lady) got taken by the other dealership, and I had to front the costs of getting a new belt/water pump.
This is sickening. I've used the Jiffy Lube in Sherman Oaks for at least 15 years for every car I have owned. Very disappointing. And getting to a garage that's open M-F 8-5 is impossible when you work the same hours. I'd rather have my wisdom teeth pulled out than go to the dealer for an oil change, and even then you can't be assured they will do the work either. Besides changing your own oil, which many won't or cannot do, where do you go ?
Of course keep in mind: Aamco, Firestone, Sears, Purrfect Auto, Good Year [and I am sure others as well] have been busted for the same thing over the years. This is a staple of journalism, the auto service ambush report. I have no sympathy for the perps, but it seems nothing ever changes over the years. Pretty sad.
I've seen this video many times........JL supposedly says they are cleaning up their act. I don't know....I still hear "stories". Last week a brand new JL opened at the bottom of the hill....the place is packed. People just don't get it.
Its true...many shops are out to prey on the unknowing general public...and they get away with it because most Joe Schmos dont know any better...I applaud any investigations into Quick Lube places...
We have a ghetto econo lube place where I live in Ontario, Canada. There name is economy lube biggest douche bags on the planet. Main reason I started doing my oil changes is one , these guys use the CHEAPEST filters possible, ALWAYS try to sell you stuff other then oil and even if you buy the coolant flush, fuel flush, they really don't do a good job at it.
Never again will I go to those places. Overcharge , bad workmanship, and they never let the oil drain for more than 3 minutes.......steady flow still coming out and they put the drain plug back on! No washer either they just tighten the crap outta the plug.
Most quicky change oil places have a large window where you can watch the maintenance task take place. Obviously you should do so. Do not sit in the comfortable chairs and read magazines. Be vigilant.
