Can you guys recommend a rough guidline for autorx application with synthetic oil? I know you guys don't recommend it all, but I'm terrified of using dino oil in my car.
If it takes several bottles with synthetic to achieve the same result as 1 bottle application with dino, I will do it! Can you guys give an estimate of how many bottles or apps I need with synthetic to achieve results of a 1 application with dino on my 60k mile car? Any help appreciated.
Oh yea, I already botched the last application because I can't add. I did use dino oil that time, but I felt uneasy driving around.
I am also preparing for an cleaning wiht ARX. My car is vw passat 1.8t. It seems I'd better use group III based oil.
But how can I tell an oil is group III based or not? Could you guys give some examples of group III based oils that can be easily found in regular stores or online stores?
The Amsoil XL line is Group III synthetic which means it is not a true synthetic, this is Amsoil's cheapest grade oil, the oil is rated for 7500 miles and is written on the bottle, nice thing about onlinr stores is that you call them up and it is delivered right to your door, Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil Platinum are Group III oil's. If it is cheaper than Mobil 1 than it is probably a GroupIII oil, Amsoil's top of the line oil says 100% synthetic, does your owner's manual call for synthetic oil, if it does not I would go with the cheapest mineral oil to get best results. Redline Oil's, Mobil 1, and Amsoil ( except for the XL line) are the only true 100% synthetic oil's. I have done everything Frank told me to do and my filters are trapping particules like crazy, from 50,000 miles up to 343,000 miles all I used was Mobil 1 and Amsoil, and now I am running Auto-Rx with mineral oil, and I thought the whole time I was running synthetic that my engine was spotless, I was wrong, the only thing better about synthetics is they have a higher flash point and lower pour point, if you drive the car like a normal person and not like a race car driver, I would use the dino oil.
Generally price is the giveaway. The less expensive synthetics are Group III. This would include house brands such as Wal-Mart's SuperTech.
After your treatment I would return to running a VW approved oil, such as Mobil 1 0W-40. I'm currently using that oil in my 2000 1.8T Passat along with 3 oz of ARX just for a little bit of insurance.
Your suggest make me feel much more clear! I would try to find the right oil! I would probably do the oil change at a mechanic. I hope they allow me to bring my own oil!
