I've got roughly 2 bottles of Auto-Rx. The Rover takes 6qts oil. I've did one application of Auto-Rx about a year ago, but I never cleand the PCV or checked it. I am about to do that and would like to do another application of Auto-Rx. I have been doing the Maint dose since the first application but only 2oz not the 3oz for sludge prone engines like I should but, I don't think I have any sludge. I am currently using Castorl Syntec is it true that I can run Auto-RX with this oil for 2000miles. I would use something like Shell Rotella T for the rinse phase if it fits the bill. DD
I think you'd be better off sticking with the manufacturer's viscosity recommendations, at least while doing a treatment. Expiriment if you like while doing a maintenance dose.
One should get into the habit of routinely replacing the PVC valve. I know from experience that bad ones can rattle just as well as good ones.
The OP didn't state what viscosity was being used or going to be used so I don't understand your first statement. I believe that Shell Rotella can be purchased in 10W30 as well.
The Manual says 10w30 or 10w40. The dealer and I have only used 30 weight oil in this vehicle. It currently has Synthetic oil in it, but I might just wait until I change the oil with a dino oil and add Auto-RX. I wanted to use auto-rx with the oil I have now that was the purpose of the post. I did a cleaning about 1 year ago and I still had a tap at startup. Apperantly most Rover's due, some don't. I wanted to be one of those that didn't. I was told I should use a thinner oil to see if it could carry Auto-RX to more places. Since then I realize that the number in front of the "W" does not mean much unless its freezing outside. Has Auto-RX been reformulated? Is the stuff I have too old? What would be a good thin 30 weight oil to use without going to a 20 weight. I don't know if my engine can handle a 20 weight.
Your question in regards to ARX. being reformulated no it has not there is no shelf life on Auto-Rx just mix well and add to oil. Stay with what oil the dealer recommends have you read the new instructions? If the oil you have in the engine now is group 111 you can add the ARX now and not have to wait until you change oil hope this information help you.
Auto-Rx can work with synthetic for initial cleaning phase for "Sludge Issues" that includes Mobil 1. It is the sludge problem alone that causes me to state don't use a true synthetic as it's complex additive package holds oil to metal. You don't want this effect when your goal is to remove engine damaging sludge from oil lubricated parts.
Why not use a group 111 oil for second cleaning & rinsing that will do nicely ?
if synthetic users could understand that sludge keeps being formed and the Auto-Rx Application keeps sludge flowing into the filter and that the end game is to keep there engine from extinction due to sludge. i am sure group 111 oils would be very acceptable.
ON ENGINE CLEANING APPLICATIONS AUTO-RX CAN WORK WELL WITH ANY SYNTHETIC.
Dumped the Synthetic, engine did not like it. I did add some Lucas Synthetic Oil stabilizer to the oil. Will I have to wait for another oil change before I do another application? My mechanic thinks my engine is pretty clean. He didn't even advised against a flush. I guess the 2oz maint dose was doing its job. Can I add 3oz to my oil now, even with the stabilizer?
