2 litre volvo s40, 98k miles, using 5w40, I am 700 miles into the first clean phase but the idle has gone really rough and the rev counter goes between 400-1000, I cleaned the idle valve out about 200 miles before I put the auto-rx in, checked all the hoses and they seem fine, is this normal?
Also driving along the motorway I would get an odd ticking noise for a second then it would go and the engine would run really smoothly and does this every now and again, just odd that it varies between smooth free reving high mpg to noisey sticky engine with low mpg sometimes in the same motorway journey. Oil is now jet black.
Strange sounds-blinking gauges all telling you your engine was full of contaminants and Auto-Rx has cleaned off these areas and oil for the first time is lubricating them. These will go away after your done rinse cycle. They do not signify problems.
ok about the noises etc thanks for the reply :), I didn't think it was bad but if the crud coming off is as bad as the things it is doing now would it be better to follow the sludge application compared to the basic for 100k+ I was going to do?
