I have a 96 Miata that I bought in mid september. The car only has 53000 mile on it. It has developed a very small oil leak. I have cleaned the engine and chaged the valve cover and CAS O ring. They were both leaking some. The only remaining leak appears to be the rear engine seal. I get a nickel size drop on the garage floor after driving it. I ordered two cans of Auto-Rx on sunday. I have read the Faq and the instructions. I only have one question. The oil and filter was changed 300 miles ago. Is it necessary to change oil again or can I add the RX to the existing oil and drive the required 2500 miles for a total of 2800 on the existing oil. I have no problem changing oil first if need be. thanks for any help.
That will be OK just remember to use Dino oil I had to use Dino oil for 2 extra oil changes for my rear main seal to stop leaking and no leaks for the past 2 years it works great if the seal is not broken or damaged. Thank you for using Auto-Rx it is a great product that works.
Just to clarify seal leaks must be stopped in conjunction with a non synthetic oil. The complex additive package in synthetic oil has one additive that holds oil to metal. This is not what you want when stopping a seal leak. In fact using a synthetic oil will start the leak again as it is not seal friendly. The simple additive package in non synthetic oil restores proper pliability to the seal.
Once you stopped the leak stay with a non synthetic oil a group 111 works well.
Frank I have no plans to ever use synthetic. The car had used valvoline dino in the past. I will probably stick with the same. BTW I misread the odometer. It has been a little over 700 miles since the last change. I am going to change oil and filter then add A-R.
