Just finished the rinse phase
Permalink

When I got my bottle of Auto Rx, the old application was the deal. 1500 mile clean phase followed by 2000 mile rinse. Shortly after I started the rinse, the application changed to the new "spec" - 2500 mile clean and 3000 mile rinse. Frank advised me to extend my rinse to the new 3000 mile standard, which I did. I just completed the rinse. I changed the oil to Mobil 1 5w-30, used a Motorcraft FL 820s oil filter, added 3oz of Auto Rx, and changed the PCV valve. The vehicle is a 2001 Ford Ranger (4.0 SOHC V6) with 81,000 miles on it. The truck's OCI schedule was almost religious - 3000 mile changes with Castrol GTX 5w-30 (for the first 50,000 miles) followed by 5000 mile changes with Mobil 1 5w-30. I ca hardly wait to see what happens! I always felt that the motor should be clean, so I don't really know what to expect. The truck got a pretty consistent, and disappointing, 16 mpg - so I hope to see an improvement. Our 99 Honda Civic is about 250 miles into the clean phase.

We changed the application mileage because test data showed real gains in performance & MPG. The results
will show within 100 miles after your done with application. i am looking forward to your post.

Well I just got gas for the first time after finishing the rinse phase. I've driven 178 miles (I know that's a short run) since changing the oil to Mobil 1 5w-30, added 3oz of Auto Rx, a new Motorcraft FL 820s oil filter, and a new PCV valve. I got 14.5 mpg, this thing got a consistent 16mpg before I started. I'm assuming/hoping that it takes a few more miles to see a difference (though I can't figure out why), so I'll post the results after my next gas purchase. The engine "feels" smoother and sure sounds quieter, so I'm hopeful that the benefits are around the corner! My air filter (Wix) only has about 11,000 miles on it and looks great, so I doubt that would make a difference. The only thing I can think of is "winter blend" gas, but my mileage was better even with that.

Give the oil a chance to lubricate the nooks & crannys that have been lubrication starved for so long. Drive a few hundred miles than check.

Just filled up last night, 14.6 mpg. I'm hoping that the combination of winter blend fuel and the constant use of defrost/heat (with engages the A/C compressor) is the deal. Although mpg has not been very good, the engine feels very smooth and sounds very quiet.

I've now replaced the thermostat, and cleaned the MAF. The engine runs, and sounds, strong - I've got to chalk this up to the "winter blend" fuel.

The fuel that I buy should still be "winter blend", but I just hit 17.2 mpg! That is mixed driving, I'm pretty stoked!

pw01,

Wow that is an increase of 2.7 MPG. Auto-Rx is a great product I would stay with the maintenance dose.
