So what is the consensus of having auto rx in the crankcase in the extreme cold?
Basically, since my great success with the Bimmer (which is so much quieter now as well, and it was never a loud car to begin with), I am going to give my '89 Mk1 Mr2 the Auto Rx treatment.
(The yellow one )
The hydraulic lifters are beginning to get a bit noisy, I have checked the shims and these are all good as at the correct distance so I must assume sludge build up in the system somewhere.
The engine has 150,000+ miles on it and has easily removable cam covers (perfect for some cleaning photos me thinks!)
Anyway..... the car will be travelling to europe and the Alps early next year with some seriously cold temperatures (sub 10 deg fahrenheit). Its a good run so will give the auto rx a good chance to do its magic but what is the situation with the low temperatures? Auto rx ok to use?
Auto-Rx will work fine as it uses oil as a carrier and will take on the same viscosity of your oil. If bottle has been subjected to cold run it it under hot water for 10 to 15 minutes and pour in your engine.Auto-Rx will pour easily.
Thanks Brent, the main concern wasnt putting in the auto-rx, it will be done in the relative warmth of my garage, but using it in continuosly freezing temperatures, left overnight.
I think the best combo will be to either use a synthetic and run the auto-rx for the clean phase with this or have a look round and try to find a decent dino that will be good at low temps.
