This summer im going to give RX a try in my already clean Tacoma 3.4L with 79,000 miles. Ive used Redline and Amsoil since buying her in 2002 with 5,000-7500 or six month change intervals. Since wasting too much money over the years im hoping to get on the Auto-Rx ban waggon. Im thinking on going with Castrol GTX and 3-4oz of Auto-Rx for the same interval. Would it be safe using a conventional oil and Auto-Rx for this length of mileage?
How many miles were on the car when you got it, also if this is a Tacoma, is this a Toyota model, the reason I ask is that you might not know how the previous owner treated the car as far as maintenance and oil changes, it might be better to follow the application for Auto-Rx on a vehicle with less than 100K, I think you will see more of a benefit doing it that way, it also seems that this car has had different oil's in its lifetime, I would think that others on here would agree that it would be beneficial to do a clean and rinse and then go on the Maintenance Dose.
I agree with Brent, given the fact that the vehicle has 79k on it, I'd do the complete treatment and go with the maintenance dose from there. Also, I would NEVER run any conventional oil past 5k without a UOA.

I also have a 3.4 V6 in my 02 Tundra. I am interested in doing the ARX clean/rinse phase in it. I have had the truck since new and synthetic oils (Royal Purple) have been run in it since 2,800 miles. I currently have Valvoline Synpower in it now with 1,600 miles on the OCI (5 months in service).I plan to do the ARX cleaning using a cheap dino oil for both the clean and rinse phase. After that is complete, do you think I should stay with dino oils with the maintenance dose or is it better to stay with the synthetic oisl and mantance dose since I have used synthetic for so long? The truck stays covered up most of the time and is started every 2 weeks or so and run for 15-30 mins. I average about 3-7K per year. Thanks for any help.
I forgot to add.....the truck has 73K on it and it has had 4-6K OCIs. It has been babied and never "abused". It does not use any oil and it is in mint condition. (No oil leaks, no sludge/varnish, basically levery part of the truck inside, outside and underneath looks brand new). Once again, thanks
Based on your somewhat infrequent use of your Toyota truck, even with the use of quality motor oil products, I'd recommend a clean and rinse cycle with ARX. Over the years I am convinced that ring pack build up of carbonaceous deposits occur, regardless of the oil run. If you really want that 73K unit to continue to purr for the next 73K or two, I would run a cleaning dose and rinse.
ARX does alot more than cleaning, after you are done with the cleaning and rinse, consider the maintenance dose with the high quality motor oils that you tend to lean towards.
Clean ring packs are the first step in making a motor perform for the long haul. Think about it, less contaminants needed to recycle back through the intake, from better combustion in the first place. This would be especially true with your current mode of use on this truck.
Great and thanks for your quick responce. I am currently doing an ARX clean/rinse in the Miss's 91 Civic with 102K on it. I am doing 2 clean/rinses on it because of the mileage. I am about 200 miles into the clean phase and so far so good. Thanks for the input.
