1999 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 Oil Consumption and ticking problem
Permalink

Hi Guys,

I am new to this site and this is my frirst post.  My Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 has bad oil comsumption and ticking problem, it is about 700 to 1K per quart.  I have about 133k miles on it.  I have read some forums and QA about this ARX.  I seem to like this ARX.  I have tried some oil treatment from wal-mart like Rislone and CD2 but didn't work.  I'm not a mechanic nor an oil analist either.  I just change my oil 2 weeks ago with Rotella 5w-40 synthetic and oil filter with Bosch.   What would you recomend me to do with ARX and oil to use to reduce my problem and by the way I live in cold state "MN" Thanks

This post on bitog shows how Auto-Rx can correct mechanical problems caused by contaminants. We are testing new type applications by the way and 2 bottles at one time is part of the test. WE HAVE NOT CHANGED THE APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME.

Well, it typically won't fix anything "broken" ..this much is surely true. If the lifter noise is due to being stuck or fouled/varnished ..or from lack of proper oil distribution along some gallery or rail, then surely something that cleaned up the supply and or the stuck, normally freely moving, part could fix the problem. In terms of HLA noise, I tried just about everything and had pretty much given into just living with it. I just tried ARX for the heck of it. It worked.

Now here's one that I'll let you in on that I was pleasantly surprised by. I have a fellow member that had a totally clean looking engine. I was hoping to do a back up experiment to Dan's two bottle 750 mile test ..but this time do 1000 miles. He pulled the valve cover and showed a totally clean engine. He did a compression check as part of the deal and found two adjacent cylinders were low. After some diagnostics (compressed air with the rockers loose) to determine that the head gasket and valves were intact, we determined that the rings were the problem. A freeze plug between the two cylinders was the cause of an overheat ..and we ventured that this had coked those two cylinder's piston oil control rings. Now the engine had no notable consumption and no symptoms of merit. His compression, after 1000 miles was totally restored on one cylinder ..and came up substantially on the other. He's going to post the entire thing once he's got the rinsing end done with and rechecks the compression. He was another one of my gems of discovery, much like Dan, in that he too was a mild skeptic in the value of such treatments. It's not some "secret" ..but that's about all I want to post for now. I'll leave it to him to post his findings. This one will have the premium of him being an engineer ...so butt dyno isn't in his DNA

First change your PCV valve .. it's only $4 or so and if it hasn't been changed yet it's overdue... be careful with the grommet, it's usually stuck on real good and you need to reuse it..  this could be the cause of the oil burn..

Personally I'd run a can of SeaFoam through the upper engine via the power brake vacuum line , at 130K+ miles you've got tons of black goo in the intake manifold, cyl. head intake ports , the backsides of your valves and piston tops/combustion chambers... these areas are not touched by ARX... the reason I say to do this first is that if done right you will see immediate positive results.. the only downside is that some of this will get into the crankcase past the rings and will take a day of driving to evaporate it all away...

The Isuzu 3.2 is better than the 3.5, especially the 98-00 3.5 motors, it runs smoother and revs freer.. follow the instructions here for the ARX ... I'd just pour it right in as you've got a fresh oil change right now.

Stay away from oil additives ,,, they promise the world but usually cause problems..

As I said I added on quart of Rislone with my oil change couple weeks ago.  I don't want ARX mix with it.  I want to wait till my next oil change to use ARX and yes I did change couple times for PCV, I tried SeaFoam also one other thing I forgot to mention to you guys.  I live in very cold state "MN" for this week and last week my is never went above 20 F.  Thanks for your suggestion.
