My Oil Filter feels like a brick!

Hello Auto-Rx fans,

I've been running Auto-Rx in my 2 vehicles - 2002 Subaru WRX and a 1968 Dodge Polara with the original 383.

This particular entry has to do with the Dodge.  It's not my everyday car so building up mileage takes a whiile.  I added the Auto-RX in August of last year when I changed the oil.  Car had about 126,000 on it at the time.  This past weekend I decided to just change the oil filter.  I'm running Rotella 15W-40 along with a Ford FL1A.  I put about 1700 miles on the oil.  When I pulled the filter off the engine it almost fell out of my hand because it felt so heavy!  I let it sit in the drain pan for a few minutes to let it drain out and what was coming out was more like thick black goo than oil.  After I let it drain for several minutes, I picked it up again and it's still VERY heavy.  It really feels like there's a brick inside the filter.

I suppose I should've been treating this engine using the "heavy sludge" application but when I pulled the valve covers to change the gaskets the valve train looked reasonably clean for a 40 year old engine.

Next step, I'll cut open the filter and post some pics of what I find inside.

I'm definitely impressed by what this product is able to do in a relatively short amount of time.

ED,

If you have this much sludge you should change the filter at around 1000 miles to be on the safe side thanks for using Auto-Rx.

I think that's going to vary depending on the engine/filter size/filter location etc.  In my case the 383 has the filter laying horizontally just above the oil pan on the front of the engine.  So between the the capacity of the FL1A and what dribbled down out of the top of the engine, I needed to add a little over a quart to get me back up to the full mark.

Take good care of that Mopar. Not too many left around. I would consider running 1000, no more than 1500 miles on the rinse phase before changing out the filter again. Should be interesting to see the progress.
