23.5 Miles Per Gallon and other results

I filled up my gas tank today and when I calculated the miles it was 23.5, this is not highway driving but going too work 10 miles 1 way and back, so essentially short trip driving, what is also amazing is that this car has a carburetor on it and with what Auto-Rx has done it starts up and drives off like the car is warmed up, almost like fuel injection, of course I have been driving the car slow and basically driving like a normal person, also since the car has no heat or A/c I have been driving with the driver's side window down, I have read that having the windows down can reduce fuel efficiency by up too 10%, what would be ideal is too see what kind of mileage the car would get out on the highway, another interesting thing is the temperature gauge that stays at 180 degrees even if I am stopped at a light or stuck in traffic for a few minutes, I do not have a fan on this car, I had an electric fan but it hardly ever came on and I had problems with the wire connected too the battery so I took it off, no more funny noises from the engine except for the speedometer cable that may need replacing or just lubed, obviously the Maintenance Dose is keeping all of my gains and Auto-Rx is paying for itself in better mileage and driveability, obviously if oil is getting everywhere it needs too be that is the magic of Auto-Rx, also there are no more oil leaks out of the rear main seal, I feel that with oil getting everywhere in the engine that the PCV gasses have an easier time of escaping into the PCV and getting burned, these are just my unscientific thoughts and the results are because I have always followed Frank's instructions and not my own, when I started Auto-Rx at 343,000 miles I thought this engine was on its last legs because the guy that helped me put in the new oil pump said it took a long time to build up pressure and this was at 331,000 miles, the difference between how the engine ran at 343,000 miles and now at 357,000 miles is night and day, before Auto-Rx the gas mileage under normal driving was 18 to 19 miles per gallon, obviously more efficiency means more power and better gas mileage. Also before Auto-Rx the temp gauge would go up to 190 and if I was sitting in traffic for a minute it would go up to 200 and then back down once I started driving, remember oil lubricates and cools and if it can get everywhere in your engine this places less of a demand on your cooling system, thanks for making a great product Frank.   biggrin

Those are some pretty amazing results, I am about 700 miles into the cleaning phase on the lexus and I used to average about 19-20 mpg. I am now getting around 21.5- 21.7mpg. I can wait to see what the results would be after I am done with 3 bottles of auto rx on this car.

Is the El camino a 6 or 8 cylinders?

I just love to hear stories of that El Camino. The fuel mileage numbers just astound me. When you come right down to it the mileage is better than most small to midsize trucks rolling off the assembly line as we speak.

Rich, I think it is because of a few things, these trucks are heavier and have a restrictive exhaust, emissions equipment can in my opinion hurt mileage sometimes, I have a true dual exhaust with low restriction mufflers, shorty headers definetly help, no a/c or smog pump so less drag on the engine, no mechanical fan so less drag on the engine again, TCI Rattler Dampr, does a great job of keeping things running smoothly, aftermarket distributor set up for the specs of my engine and camshaft, and of course Auto-Rx cleaning everything out of the engine so lubricating oil goes everywhere it needs too go, also an oil pan with trap doors and a windage tray, also a crankshaft scraper and an oil pump baffle that mounts below the oil pump so no oil can slide up and get whipped up by the crank, these are just my unscientific opinions.
