Brand New 20 H.P. Kohler Engine On A Cub Cadet Tractor
Permalink

My Dad got a brand new tractor too mow the lawn, I was wondering how much Auto-Rx too add as a Maintenance Dose, I think the system capacity with oil filter is almost 2 quarts, when should I start it , now, or wait so many hours on the machine, as it has an hour meter on there and the oil and filter need to be changed every 50 hours, I would think that these 4-Cycle Engines could benefit from Auto-Rx since they are run in hot and sometimes cold conditions and they are air cooled so it would be very important to get oil everywhere, my Dad'd other machine had a Briggs engine with a splash system, and it went after 800 hours, it was a twin cylinder and we think a rod broke since only 1 of the cylinders was only firing, hope that with Auto-Rx Maintenance Dose this tractor will last a long time, the other 1 lasted 13 years. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.weirdface

I started using 1oz of Auto-Rx in 1 quart of oil and it has worked great. It is a 12HP Briggs engine with no filter I would stay with no more than 2oz per quart of oil.

If it were me I'd wait until your first oil change before using ARX. Do they say when you should change your oil and filter the first time?

I think his owner's manual says too change it after 25 hours or so, that is the oil and filter of course.

I have a Kohler motor in my John Deere lawn tractor. Its a single cylinder unit and has two quart oil sump, pressurized with a spin on filter just like a car. Recommended oil changes are every 25 hours of operation, which I do faithfully. I would run 2 fluid ounces with each oil change.

His engine is the single cylinder, he got a extra quart of Wal-Mart Super Tech 10W-30, so Rich I guess what you are saying is to add 2 ounces at the next oil change. He also picked up a Super Tech oil filter that is built by Champion Labs and it is the new E-Core design, seems like a nice oil filter.

brent olsen,

Brent I would not use more than 2oz of ARX thats what Richone is recommending. I used 3 to 4 oz in my Briggs engine and it fouled the plug and that is why I am using only the 2oz amount.

Thanks, Daryl, I planned on using 2 ounces because the engine holds 2 quarts, 1 ounce to 1 quart, but are we in agreement to add 2 ounces at the 1st oil change, I need to get a good idea as I do not want too screw anything up, I am not telling my Dad about adding Auto-Rx because he is old school, I am doing this for 2 reasons, 1 day I may get the mower, and I do not want to get up in the future on a Saturday morning at 6am to get another tractor, the last tractor he had I had to get up at 6:30 am to take it too the salvage yard, I want this one too last, so when do I add the 2 ounces of Auto-Rx to the oil. The morning I took the old tractor too the salvage yard was cold, would rather have Auto-Rx working and be sleeping in a warm bed.
