I am 800 miles into my 4th Clean Phase ( if you remember at the beggining of Auto-Rx I accidently did 2 clean phases in a row) I had to change the oil filter last night, the oil that came out was clean but there was oil trapped in the pleats. The car now has 359,800 miles on it, I started Auto-Rx at 343,000 miles, the car is running great and it is getting almost 21 m.p.g. in mostly driving around town with very few stops as I can avoid the lights, so technically very little stop and go. I am just wondering if my concerns are not warranted because with this many miles maybe it is taking a long time to clean things up, meaning all the junk accumulated in the 343,000 miles could have been some hard crud and it is just taking time to wear off. The other idea is that it could be running a little rich but I do not think this is enough to load an oil filter in 800 miles, the car has a 195 thermostat so it is building heat quickly, it is not blowing any smoke on startup. I think Frank once said that this is the highest mileage car that Auto-Rx has gone into, maybe I am in unchartered territory. I have the PCV that sticks in the valve cover and then goes to a hose on the carb with a breather on the other side, I do not know if I just had breathers on both sides if this would be better. If most cars with over 100,000 miles needs 2 treatments maybe I am at the right place on this clean phase, obviously I will be staying the course, any ideas would be appreciated, maybe I just need to lean the carburetor out but when it was leaned out before I was still going through oil filters.
I think that I might be answering my own question, got on Jegs and found a Steeda Oil Seperator that mounts between my PCV and the engine. It is basically a catch can and keeps any oil mist from being directed back into the engine.
I do not think I need this oil seperator , catch can thing, I checked the PCV hose and there was no oil in the hose at either end, my guess is that Auto-Rx has done such a good job of cleaning the engine and rings that there is no blowby and I am no longer getting any puffs of smoke on startup. Before Auto-Rx there was always some wetness of oil in the PCV hose.
