My transmission started to slip today as I was getting on the highway. I drove it home without problems, and pulled the dipstick. I think it was overfilled a little, and there were bubbles on the transmission fluid. The actual fluid color didn't look brown, more of the reddish color it should look like.
I bought this car used about 4 months ago, and haven't had any hint of any transmission problem until now. I'm wondering, is it worth trying Auto-RX for the 1000 miles and then doing the flush? Or is my transmission beyond hope?
With just a slip and some bubbles, I think your transmission is in pretty good shape for a 1996. If you think it's overfilled, I'd remove a some of the ATF and then perform the recommended Auto-RX treatment. There's probably nothing wrong with it, but cleaning never hurt anything, right?

Check it when car is idling, move the stick through all the gears.
In the Camry, when you see the dipstick once, it looks like it is overfilled.
So do it a few times. Then check it again.
Usually slipping is caused by underfilling.
I have used Auto-RX in my Camry, it works great.
Also, there is a small differential in the rear of transmission that are usually neglected to be changed. It takes less than 2 quarts of ATF, just drain and fill. You have to jack up the car and go underneath to see the drain and fill plug.
