My D2 has 95K. I have not used ARX before, but given the mileage...I would like to do a safe progressive preventive crankshaft cleasing. As you may know, LandRovers tend to run rich. Changed oil regularly at 3k.
Right now I have MaxLife 10-40 synblend in the engine (only 500 miles since last change)...on the next change, planning to put in Rotella-T 15-40.
Please provide ARX cleaning recommendations. 1 or 2 applications? Could I start the first application with the synblend currently in the engine..or do you recommend waiting til I have Rotella-T in the engine?
In advance, thanks.
Dear Mr.XXX
Thanks for choosing Auto-Rx for you motor internal cleaning needs. Auto-Rx is the best choice for safely cleaning your motors internals. With respect to you question regarding what oil to use for best results I submit the following.
Running the auto-rx, for best results, I would choose the Rotella T for both the cleaning phase and the rinse phase. The reason being that the MaxLife that is currently installed contains some polar additives. Ideally, you want Auto-Rx as the dominant polar ingredient in the oiling system for maximum cleaning performance. By polar, in short I mean ingredients that have an attraction to ferrous metal surfaces, which you are trying to clean. This is particularly true for the rinse phase of your application.
You may run the cleaning phase, with the Auto-Rx installed, with the MaxLife, provided that you rinse with the Rotella T, as per application instructions. However, I do recommend running the Rotella T for both cleaning and rinse.
You make a very good point that the D2 motor tends to run rich. The result of this is that piston rings tend to get coked up with carbonaceous deposits and the rings get somewhat binded up, resulting in poor ring to cylinder wall sealing. As you know this leads to fuel dilution issues into the motor oil. This ultimately leads to engine deposits, both varnishing and sludging.
I am making an assumption that your Dads D2 is a gasoline engine and question the desire to run an oil Rotella T, which is designed for diesels. The Rotella T will work fine for your cleaning application and rinse, however a simple conventional oil in the 10 W 40 spec designed for a gasoline motor will work just as well for cleaning and rinsing. If I am in error regarding the motor in your D2, I apologize, and you may disregard this paragraph.
After running your cleaning and rinse through the Auto-Rx application, I would recommend running the 3 fluid ounce maintenance dose with each oil change to keep the piston rings functioning properly for miles to come. Running this 3 fluid ounce maintenance dose can be done with any oil of your choice. The other option would be to run a full cleaning and rinse every 25,000 miles.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to contact with any further questions now, or down the road.
