Hi all...i just bought some arx to try out on my old datsun 240z...the engine in it is from a 79 280zx with 98k miles on it...so far it runs good with little to no oil consumption and has been well maintained but has a rear main seal leak that has goten worse since i tried some of that  Valvoline High milage oil...so now im going to try some ARX and see how it goes...

Would a Zinc based oil be ok to use with ARX... i need to use a oil that has zinc in it and want to know if this will affect the ARX at all?

I think as long as the oil is Group III, it will be fine. Which oil do you have in mind?

Thanks for the reply....I had Rotella in mind...reason being the old L series engines require a oil with ZDDP in it wich is being phased out of oils due to emissions...So i just wanted to know if a oil with zinc or adding a zink addative to the oil will affect the performance of the ARX at all...

The Rotella will be a fine oil to use with Auto-Rx, both on the clean and rinse cycles. If you are using this heavy duty Rotella oil, you should not need any extra zinc additives, because it already has a higher level of zinc/phosphorous than regular passenger car oils. Actually, all oils contain zinc/phoshorous in various amounts, but the diesel/gas rated oils like 15W-40 and 5W-40 synthetics like Rotella 5W-40 contain higher levels of the zinc AW additives that your engine needs.

I would avoid using any other additives while doing a Auto-Rx clean or rinse cycle, just to get the best results and avoid the possibility of competing chemistries that an additive may introduce.

Right...my main concern was if a oil with agood amount of zddp would hinder or compete against the ARX...so i guess it iwill be fine with it...

How does Castrol GTX compare? is there a oil analysis on this oil? I looked for one but couldnt find one....reason being i got some bottles that need to be used...

Castrol GTX is fine, it doesn't have good amounts of zinc/zddp if that's what you're asking. But it is a good oil.
