I'm not seeing a big problem with Castrol Syntec since it is groupIII based, all except the 0W-30 which says European formula and "made in Germany." Sounds like they did some type of modified clean and rinse, certainly not the prescribed instructions, but surely Auto-Rx did that sludged engine some good. Hard to tell what is going on in your engine without being there and knowing how it sounds, how much oil it is using, etc.
Biggest thing I could recommend is to get on board with about a 4 oz maintenance dose each oil change and go no more than 3000- 5000 miles between changes, even with synthetic oil.
The number one concern with a sludged engine is the oil pump pickup tube screen at the bottom getting clogged up with sludge, and then restricting or stopping the intake of oil up to the pump. If you indy has not checked this screen out yet on your engine, it is imperative that is done soon. The oil drainback holes from the top of the cylinder head down to the sump must all be opened. Lastly, the crankcase ventilation system must be cleaned and able to function or the problems will return.
I had to replaced the pickup screen on a sludged engine today because the screen was not cleanable. I could not see where oil was still getting through the screen and up to the pump.
