BMW Owner Needs Help

Hello Technical Support,
I have a 2000 BMW 528i and I have recently had my engine treated with AutoRX by my indy shop as they said
my engine was "clogged with many sludge deposits" (their wording on my invoice).
I have since been reading up on your product on your web site and discovered I could not find their treatment
procedure listed/matched with any of your suggested treatment procedure options. I was wondering if their treatment
procedure plan could actually cause any damage to my vehicle or engine and/or if it would simply just not work as
well as the procedures you have listed.
Their procedure was this:
1) They first performed an oil change and added AutoRX with Total NF Synthetic Oil (is that non synthetic?)
2) Then they told me to drive the car about 1000 - 1200 miles and bring the car back for another oil change
(They wrote on the invoice need to bring the car back after 1000 miles to re clean filter housing and
change to Catrol Oil...but they told me to drive the car about 1000 - 1200+ miles and bring the car back for another
oil change using Castrol Syntec 5W30 (Full Sythetic Oil))
3) I drove the car over the weekend for a little over 1200 miles and they told me that was fine and they did another oil
change using Castrol Syntec 5w30 (Full Synthetic Oil)
(Dont know if they did any re clean of filter housing but I suspect not since it was not listed on the invoice)
I also noticed they used the V8 engine oil filter rather than the I6 (which is what I have) engine oil filter.
(I asked them about this and they said dont worry because many times the same parts work with both (are interchangable)).
4) Then they told me to drive the car another 2000-30000 Miles (They Said around 3000 ish or even a little more would be ok
since I needed to take the car on a vacation trip) and then bring it back in for another full synthetic oil change.
So...this is where I am now, I have taken the vacation trip and then put the car in storeage for the winter (Before changigng the oil
(They said this was ok) and I now have it back out with approximately 3500 miles on it since the oil change described above using
the Castrol Syntec 5W30 (Full Synthetic) (the first one AFTER AutoRX treatment) and am ready to change again as described
above again using the same Catrol Syntec 5W30 (Full Synthetic Oil).
I had some concerns of them using a full synthetic seemingly sooner than what you list on your web site...Could this cause any problems?
Finally,  they are recommending after this oil change that it can go on a 3000 - 5000 mile oil change interval conitnueing to use the same
Castrol Syntec 5W30 (Full Synthetic Oil) and then after a year of that it can go on a regular 5000 mile interval again continuing to use the
same Castrol Syntec 5W30 (Full Synthetic) as the interval and oil standard from that point on.
Now my question is...should I just continue along this plan as described above including getting this oil change now?
Since this plan is different than any you list on your web site, are there any disadvantages to me following this plan like it will not be
cleaned effectively or as well or even worse yet...could it actually damage my vehicle or my engine?
I hope I havent made this note sound too confusing and you can follow my steps above fairly easily. Any information you could give me would
be very much appreciated as I am  scheduled for another oil change tomorrow (03/27/09) and wanted to make sure thats the right thing to do
and that Im on the right track and am not causing any damage to anyting following this procedure.
Thank you so much in advance,
Brett B.

I'm not seeing a big problem with Castrol Syntec since it is groupIII based, all except the 0W-30 which says European formula and "made in Germany."   Sounds like they did some type of modified clean and rinse, certainly not the prescribed instructions, but surely Auto-Rx did that sludged engine some good. Hard to tell what is going on in your engine without being there and knowing how it sounds, how much oil it is using, etc.

Biggest thing I could recommend is to get on board with about a 4 oz maintenance dose each oil change and go no more than 3000- 5000 miles between changes, even with synthetic oil.

The number one concern with  a sludged engine is the oil pump pickup tube screen at the bottom getting clogged up with sludge, and then restricting or stopping the intake of oil up to the pump. If you indy has not checked this screen out yet on your engine, it is imperative that is done soon.  The oil drainback holes from the top of the cylinder head down to the sump must all be opened.  Lastly, the crankcase ventilation system must be cleaned and able to function or the problems will return.

I had to replaced the pickup screen on a sludged engine today because the screen was not cleanable.  I could not see where oil was still getting through the screen and up to the pump.
