VW 1.9L TDI Diesel application
Permalink

I have a '99.5 VW Jetta TDI with 156k miles on it.  I just recently purchased this vehicle so I am uncertain of the oil change history.  I do notice some build up on the dip stick but not what I would consider extreme.

The 1.9L TDI takes 4.8 quarts of oil.  I read the recommended application instructions for a diesel but I was wondering if they apply to this 'small' 4 cylinder diesel engine.  I assume that the recommended application instructions are for the larger, more common Ford PSD, GM Duramax, and Dodge Cummins that you find in many pick up trucks.

6x6man,

Yes same application for your engine. Thanks for using ARX.

The same application but in proportion, right? Since the 1.9 takes just over a gallon of oil, you don't use as much Auto-RX as a truck with a 3-gallon oil capacity. Isn't it correct that the 1.9 TDI should get 1 bottle of ARX?

That is correct. 1 bottle, or 2 oz per quart which would be a bit less than a bottle. I use the whole bottle for 4 and 5 quart engines.

Thanks for prompting that clarification.  That's what I was getting at, how much to add, not how long to run.
