You do not need to alter your current application. Glad to hear your lifter tick has subsided. Hopefully you are in a position to get your motor home out on the road for maximum enjoyment in the coming months. Our instructions have evolved over the years based on both internal studies as well as listening to customer input. In a nut shell, a total of 14 fluid ounces of Auto-Rx in your 7 quart sump will work perfectly fine. I say that especially in light of your big block 454 has only 30,000 miles on the clock. I will advise you however that although oil degrades most often due to mileage, the length of service life is also effected, by time as well. In my estimation you should consider changing out the oil in this motor home this year regardless of mileage.
Lets consider your information supplied that your lifter tick has subsided. For that to happen ARX has cleaned up deposits out of the top end of the motor, lifter area, for sure. It is highly likely that a fair amount of cleaning has occurred in and around the cam and rocker areas as well. Auto-Rx is great at dissolving and suspending contaminants, and provides a great deal of anticorrosion properties to the host oil, but there comes a time when the oil needs to be changed out and a rinse phase begun. My best advise is to change out your oil after accumulating most of the mileage you are going to run this year, even if it is only going to be another 500 miles. Change out the oil at this point and at this point you will have basically virgin clean oil in the system for the off season. I am a big fan of putting in fresh oil just prior to the off season.
Your 454 works pretty hard moving a heavy vehicle like a motor home. Internal working parts are stressed and work a lot harder than say the same motor type in a relatively light weight passenger car or light duty pick up. Your motor will clean faster due to heat generated at friction points with this same motor doing a lot more work than the light duty pick up truck.
Please understand that a good majority of customers in need of Auto-Rx are daily driver customers. You can probably guess that a good majority are those that have abused oil change intervals and have created substantial oxidized oil deposits within the oiling system of their motors. There are plenty of folks that have neglected PCV valve maintenance or tune up intervals and created internal deposits from blow by gasses, even though they were pretty good on oil changes.
At the end of the day, catering to the masses of sludge prone cars or customer neglected cars we have written instructions that best serve the majority of folks that need to run Auto-RX. We also know in tough economic times that folks with dirty motors are likely to have limited financial resources and need to maximize the effectiveness from every drop of Auto-Rx. This is why we have extended the cleaning phase out to 3000 miles. It used to be 1500 miles. But through internal studies, oil analysis, ect., it has been determined that the lubricity characteristics of Auto-Rx, as well as the slow methodical cleaning characteristics, of the product, provide the consumer with the best bang for the buck, with no negative side effect.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please fire back any questions or concerns you may have.
