This Is Heavy Oil Burning Read Our Suggestions

Dear Marco,

Hopefully we can correct your oil burning issues with you new VW. Your vehicle with service mileage of 139,000 km or 86,370 miles may well have oil deposits that are causing the oil consumption issues. You state that your consumption was 1 liter of oil in just 1000 kms.  That is significant.  For folks in the Auto-Rx team I am going to mention that the oil consumption is roughly 1 quart for 621 miles. There are only two ways for oil to be consumed at this level. Either piston ring packs are not functioning properly, most noticeably the oil control ring which is located at the base of the piston skirt. The other way oil can be consumed through burning is from poor valve stem seals. I want to make you aware that all modern motors have a crankcase ventilation system, most commonly referred to as the PCV system. The purpose of the PCV system is to allow unburned fuel that slips by the piston rings to be released back through the intake system. If this system is not functioning properly, this will lead to heavy oil consumption. Excessive crank case pressure would tend to push oil by the oil control rings on the pistons. Also if the unburned fuel is allowed to collect in the crankcase this will dilute the oil and make it thinner, which also promotes oil burning. Not being able to release unburned or partially burned fuel gases is also a catalyst for sludge deposits.

So, I would first check out your crankcase ventilation system for operationally. A PCV valve is quite inexpensive. Next you will need to run Auto-Rx to dissolve contaminants off of your valve stem seals and also around the oil control rings on your pistons. Although your compression is good, compression is achieved from the top compression ring with some help from the intermediate ring.

To help you with measurements for applying Auto-Rx to your motor, I submit the following. For your motor that holds 3.2 liters of oil(3.38 quarts), you will need to add 300 ml. of Auto-Rx. You will drive the car for 4,828 kms. At this point you will drain the oil and Auto-Rx, and refill with oil and a new filter. Now you will run the car and additional 4,828 kms.  It is likely that you will need to perform this procedure twice.

I am sure that the Castrol 15w50 or 15W40 product would be a better choice for running the Auto-Rx application. For a good reason it is much cheaper to run the conventional oil for such short oil change intervals.  And remember not to overfill the crankcase when adding the Auto-Rx.

You can order the product directly from Auto-Rx. I dont believe that a distributor/dealer network exists in Portugal. When filling out the order form, there is a calculator that tells you what the shipping charges are for you address.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
